He has worked on his physique which helps the power hitting unlike earlier where he used to uncork his wrists to generate power. He has been made into a scapegoat. he has worked continue in the domestic circuit, one of the best performers, and so deservedly gets a chance in the squad. If Irfan or any other player X works hard domestically, they also deserve chances but player like Irfan does nothing yet there are tons here who think of him as the missing link

Selecting an opener like Dhawan would make no sense really. Also as people have said, Rahane can open the innings if PP has a poor run of form.

I guess Jadeja more is a back up for Yuvraj keeping the left-arm spinner option available. Expect the team management to follow suite. Edit - A Cricinfo tour report of the game also reads this Parthiv Patel and Ajinkya Rahane started confidently, and though Parthiv rushed into his shots, desperate to make a quick impact, the fluency of Rahane caught the eye.
