yar its simple .. justp lay 2 best inform players and currently they are dhawan and vijay and if these 2 will perform consistently then wait for them to fail and others like gambhir to perform in ranji to get chance tight now dhawan and vijay have not failed and gambo has not performed :)

gambhir in form >>>> any opener in india same way i am backing zack over even yadav :winky:
I wouldn't drop Vijay either. Its unfair on him but I honestly don't see any sort of future in that guy. I would be glad if I'm proved wrong but I don't hate him, I just don't trust that guy overseas.
Then one of Dhawan or Vijay will go depending on form.why does it HAVE to be Vijay only?
What MTC said in that writing of his about our bowlers, its easier for us to identify a good batsman but we suck at it when it comes to bowling. Vijay has shown more intent that Vijay to succeed overseas. Recent CT, Windies tour and he's faced Steyn in the nets.

vijay hate here is baffling laaloo is trolling him since he performed for csk and slickr is buying that right now dhawan has to perform more than vijay to be safe and that is the truth and even in last test vijay did better than dhawan and looked fairly comfortable on track with bounce

those were ODIs yaar,c'mon  Raina,Yuvraj have succeeded in overseas ODIs before.we all know how it turned out in Tests Mooli deserves the chance after being our highest scorer in Aus series

@slickr how we pick batsman or bowlers is same first they have to perform in ranji now if 2 players with similar stats come up we pick one with more potential (like rohit over tiwary ) but right now no opener is scoring runs so to pick some one who is not even scoring jsut based on potential is not indian thing infact is pak way of thinking of recycling cricketers who have not improved at all or performed in domestic cricket and in the end they make same mistake and cycle continuous . malik, afridi, razzaq etc all have been doing this for ages ..i am not comparing gambo to them but you will have to admit his problem which caused him problems in tests is still there and nothing has changed so there is no point in selecting him until he improves .

also one good thing dhoni does is back players till they fail even gambhir was backed for 2 whole years based on potential so do not cry like something unfair has happened ...

Abbe..I know laaloo hates him because he plays for CSK. I have nothing to do with BS IPL ! If it had been IPL love shove, I would have had Rahane ahead of Rohit in SA.

Yep, he deserves it. And Raina and Yuvi's weakness on tough surfaces have been exposed in Test as well. Its not format but conditions that matters more in Vijay's case. My doubt about Vijay is not his ability to play Test cricket but his ability to play Test cricket overseas. I am being biased here but I have more confidence on Dhawan than him.

I don't "hate" Vijay but I don't like him either. Not because he is from certain part of our country and many from that part of our country believe that he is hated because of that region which is ridiculous. The reason why people don't like him is because he simply hasn't performed as an opener in overseas. He has a terrible back foot technique and it would always cause him trouble on bouncy tracks. If he sorts out this technical glitch, he would do much better and people would support him.

Wouldn't make any difference if an opener does show up in Ranji, ATM. Dhoni would back Vijay.

only problem here is that doubt is true for every batsman in our batting line up other than pujara truth is..both vijay and dhawan have earned a chance to go out to south africa and fight for themselves and score runs...none of other openers in this country have earned it or none of them have any better technique to do well away from home that is the truth and i respect it instead of being delusional like padosis who think they always have better crickters every domestic team blah blah!

If Padosis can score runs there, so can our bats. :winky:

ODIs don't matter.different format completely throwing your wicket away is bigger problem.proves he has concentration problems
Tests in SAF is effectively a different format from tests in India. :winky: In SAF , we would need someone who will attack the opposition and gain some psychological advantage. I am not sure whether too many of our batsmen have the practice to succeed in such a short test series if they all bat at normal test pace. Dhawan has played quite a few long innings in the longer format, so , concentration should not be a problem.

I don't have the answer to who will open but Mooli's gonna fail big time in SA and KT's and fineleg's thread are gonna flow on ICF abusing him. @Delusive Mooli supporters- tab milenge !
I dont have a thread abusing him. In fact never abused. I think he has a 35% chance of doing ok in SA:giggle: I would pick as best option for now, dont see better alternative

That is the main issue people have with Vijay.

It is true, there is no time to find and groom any other opener before the SAF tour. So, like him or not, there is no other practical option now.

Even if they do well their each partial failure will make them the most hated players, there is no apparent explanation for Vijay and Ashwin hate other than perceived racial preferences indoctrinated by years of media hypocrisy.

Averages 55+ in 9 innings so far this season but before his overseas tour he was averaging 38.6 in one season in 9 innings, he might still do better in overseas tour this season..
