Yes as of today Umesh is definitely slightly better than Aaron but Aaron has reverse swing and when there are 2 Genuine fast bowlers ' date=' you can never say who comes up and takes mroe wickets on a day..its like who ever is Luckier will get more wickets..i mean both are Good enuf and should be played and if one is to be chosen , Possibly Umesh should be picked for the first test atleast[/quote'] Agreed with the Reverse Swing point. But Umesh has natural swing (even outswing) not like PK but enough to get a nick specially in test matches if the line & length is good.

One major issue with the selection of the pacers has been the way they have been fast tracked without any experience of playing for India A or such tours by visiting teams. Tyagi did well in one season (2008-09), got into team , was obviously not ready for international cricket, was taken for a few tours and then was thrown out of the team. Same with Mithun, did well in a season and was in team India, bowled his heart out in SL, was not picked for SA but has somehow remained in contention everytime a bowler gets injured. These youngsters need to be made aware of their exact role in the team. In a way lack of developnment for Tyagi and Mithun also shows us how the system in India doesnt help a pacer develop at all. But those two still have age on their side and can resurrect their international career by adding more skills (and in Tyagi's case better fitness and stamina).
Well yeah ideally it would be say two good FC seasons and at least one good A tour/series before test cricket. Sadly we play VERY little A team cricket, unlike say the England Lions. Seeing that we are not exactly blessed with a plethora of pace talent selectors are forced to rush to blood any half decent looking talent, can not blame them. Makes you wonder how things would have been different with say Irfan and RPS had they played more FC cricket at least, even if not A team cricket, prior to tests. Got to know their art and bodies a bit better. Even Ishant would have been a better bowler for it. The fact that our middle order has been strong has meant Pujara and Rahane have played a lot and toured with EPT and A team, has meant they are more battle hardened prior to making test debuts and basically readier for the international game

Problem with Indian team has been that we never had good settled bowling combination that is why selectors had to blood young fast bowlers early to fill the space. Either our bowlers were injured or were not bowling well and we never had more than 1-2 good bowlers at a time. Because of these reasons, selectors were forced to try new guys whether have enough experienced or not or ready for international cricket.

Mithun was included in the test team because he was thought to be a genuine fast bowler. Kumble and Dravid had talked about him as possessing genuine pace. As the selectors are always looking for true quicks, he was fast-tracked into the side after only one, albeit excellent, domestic season. But it was seen that he is just fast-medium, sometimes even slower in tests and his performance was also ordinary. So he lost his place in the test side as a genuine quick. Tyagi is probably sidelined due to recurring injuries.

Mithun was sharp till he went to australia ,where they advised and worked with him to change his action to prevent injuries he came back with a new action which reduced his pace and with the new action he is now only inswing bowler.
