Paul Allott impressed by pacer Varun By: Sai Mohan Date: 2011-10-24 Place: Mumbai Young Indian speedster Aaron impresses former England fast bowler with 3-wicket haul on debut against England at Wankhede Former England fast bowler Paul Allott reckoned India have "a gem in their hands" in the form of Varun Aaron who took three wickets on his ODI debut against England here at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday. Aaron's late burst gave ample hope to detractors who felt fast bowling in India was merely about variations and cutters. Paul Allott Firstly, he removed left-hander Scott Borthwick with a ball that kept low, but nipped back from an off-stump line to clip the middle stump. Next, he cleaned up fellow quick bowler Stuart Meaker with a yorker length ball that reversed at pace to uproot the leg-stump. And finally, he beat England's top-scorer Tim Bresnan with one that pitched middle-and-leg and kissed the off-stump. There was a slight delay in the celebration as the Jharkhand lad hadn't noticed the flying bails. A few seconds later, he saw his skipper head to the pavilion and that brought a broad smile to his face. Super swinger During the innings interval, former cricketers were abuzz with the ability of the youngster. "He's an outstanding young fast bowler. India have a gem in their hands. He uses his shoulder to good effect and can swing the ball both ways. Only thing he can work on is keeping his chin upright at the time of delivery. Otherwise, he's got all the basics right. I love his smooth run-up too. He got to reverse (swing) the ball that was only 20 overs old (after he came back into the attack in the 40th over. Obviously, he must have worked hard on that art," Allott told MiD DAY yesterday. Besides a low full toss that Aaron bowled in his first spell that deservedly got smacked to the mid-wicket fence by Kevin Pietersen, the 21-year-old quick showed immense control with his line and length. That was displayed in his pitch map at the end of the England innings. The Lancashire great felt India must take care of Aaron and injured fast bowler Umesh Yadav. Incidentally, it was Yadav's injury that made way for Aaron's ODI debut yesterday. "I think India must make a conscious effort to take care of both him (Aaron) and young Umesh Yadav -- another bowler I was very impressed with. I am amazed that neither of them played during India's tour of England." On England's total of 220, Allott felt the batsmen were yet to "crack it" with regards to batting in Indian conditions. "It's very disappointing (that we crumbled yet again). The ball wasn't turning, but they (the batsmen) allowed the Indian spinners to take so many wickets. I am worried because we (England) are to travel to India next year for four Test matches. We need to improve quickly. There was too much shuffling going on at the crease. The batsmen hadn't learned their lessons. Instead of playing with soft hands, they kept going after the ball. The footwork was also poor," he rued. Why were they not played in England defies logic , the captain, selectors should know the players they have to push for and nurture, a captain's duty is not just present but seeing the big picture.
Looks like Paul wanted to elongate his "Lulli", hence he wrote this article..Because according to one demented logic, hoping for and discussing a potential pace bowler actually increases one's "Lulli" by few inches.. So based on same demented logic, it appears few "Lullis" got chopped off yesterday.. :giggle:

Now most important thing for them is to "Not Listen to everybody" "Be as natural as possible without tampering too mauch with their actions"

I doubt it. One thing I feel certain of is they won't lose their pace. They seem natural pacemen. Not ones like Ishant, Sree, old Munaf who have to be in rhythm to bowl quick for a short spell. Both these young guys need to develop how to take wickets which will come with experience. I think Aaron will make it in some format, I have doubts about Yadav.
Genuine fast bowler is at his peak for not more than 2 to 3 years ..i mean at his fastest and one shud get to bowl them then thats why varun and umesh shud play most matches now. ZAk was fastest for a couple of years..nehra was at his fastest for a couple of years..sreenath was at his fastest for around 3 years...sree needs rhythm to get to his peak..even ishant seems to be slowing down and past his peak. utilise these 2 fast bowlers- when they can bowl fast ..i bet after 2 years they will also slow down considerably and become trundlers ... irfan did bowl at 137K during his fastest days along with swing- thats a dreaded combination ...now he is 123K with genuine Swing- still not a BAD combo, probably better than VK who also swings but very little at 125k to 130K. PK is a 125K genuine swinger so he is kinda managing to Live in International cricket but he requires some environment to support.

Umesh and Aaron as a min should be played in all odis for 12 months. And at least one should be in test team. Yadav is quicker but aaron more accurate. I would choose aaron ahead of yadave in tests but tempted to play both

Also wanna say that i dont expect UY and Varun to Improve there PAce now..UY is 147k which is more than enuf and Varun is bowling at 145K which is good enuf..i am sure that they will slow down in coming years that why I am suggesting to PLay them when they are at their Peak.. .i also did bowl fast once when i was 19 years and now when i am 39 i play as a Opener for my Company in Corpoorate matches or matches with CLubs and ofcourse work in a MNC. i left pace bowling or fast bowling when i was 30 and now I am just a Batsmen...Fast bowling is very demanding ...Human BODY cannot handle the pressure after a couple or at maximum 3 years.

in any Test Match too much of inexperience leads to disaster,so we should stick to our best eleven. But we can still afford to give a chance " one player at a time either a bowler/batsman".Otherwise aftermath results would be very frustrating.

Rotate the two of them. We need to manage their workload till they have fully developed as bowlers. We play 3 back to back tests vs WI. Umesh could play the two of the and then Varun could come in for the 3rd test. Similarly for WI ODIs, Umesh could play 2 of those and Varun the other 3. Can't expect two young bowlers to lead our attack in their first year of international cricket. let them continue to develop for 12-18 months and by then they would be ready to lead our attack.

To be Frank "Umesh Yadav" wasnt injured in the last ODI at all,He literally got dropped by team management in order to give chance for varon .(in India if someone is dropped technically thenthey need to comeback into the side by playing in ranji and duleep trophy and taking alot of wickets/Scoring very highly). To avoid that team management puts them on Injured list.( sachin , yuvraj ,munaf, sreesanth are not injured at all.)

Sreesanth is not injured.

well...in reality Umesh is much more mature and bowl better line than varun....i have seen irani match and umesh looks far more potent than varun....Umesh clearly should be the one making teh test debut....

You are right. Umesh definitely bowled better in the Irani trophy and Aaron bowled better in the ODIs. So I guess for test matches, if only one is picked, it has to be Umesh.
