maniac Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I have never been this excited for Indian cricket since it looks like we have our own stable of Phaaaast bowlers but here is a quick question ? Umesh and Aaron have really impressed with their pace but I still think Ishanth is still the quickest and most threatening Pace bowler in the Indian team(On his day). I know he had 2 years where he just fell away but since his resurgence in last year's IPL,I have seen him consistently bowl as fast as the other 2. when in amazing rythm with added weapons of bounce and seam movement he is wonderful to watch. It is likely that a fully-fit Zak will be our spearhead,It will be challenging to drop PK after his performances in WI and Eng,Ishanth as I said is our best pace bowler...So where is the place for Umesh and Yadav??? Don't want to overbowl these 2 in ODI's and T20... So unless we use 4 seamers it is very difficult to find a place for these 2 and also not to forget the experience of Shreeshanth who has not performed that bad in tests to be completely discarded, so how would we use these 2????
jusarrived Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Am excited too , but it's important that we handle them carefully ..I frankly don't care who bowls and what pace he bowls in LOIs .it's nice to have one genuine pace bowler in ODIs too , so I would pick one off Varun and umesh ...this would keep them fit for tests .
Show_stopper Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Well Ishant seems to be out for 8 months. No idea how long Zak is going to be out of the game. In any case he and Sree have a history with frequent injuries. And the way PK is being made to work...injury is just around the corner. So plenty of room for both of them, atleast in the short term.
Pagalpanti Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 ^I don't think Ishant is out for 8 months, in fact he is back playing in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He should be available for WI series.
Cricket Tragic Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Aaron plays the ODIs while Yadav plays tests if possible. We wait for Aaron to develop and bowl more overs in FC cricket. By this time, Yadav would have become a trundler. We then kick Yadav out and play Aaron.
maniac Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Aaron has been **** in FC cricket. I wouldn't look a lot into FC performances as VK,Arvind and PK are just beasts when it comes to domestics. At the same time I agree FC should be a benchmark to get into the Indian team, Varun has not played enough FC to pass a judgement on him,His USP is he is quick and travelling with the Indian Squad and groomed by the likes of Feltcher, etc should make him a much better bowler

Short-term it is because,we obviously need our first choice x1 in exactly 2 months time There are 6 ODI's,1 T20 and 3 test matches in these 2 months before the big tour of Aus starts,That is not long enough unless there is some kind of extraordinary or miracle performances by players in our reserve squad.
Dravid_TheWall Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Yadav isn't ready for anything yet. So no dilemna.
Trichromatic Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Yadav isn't ready for anything yet. So no dilemna. India doesn't has any better bowler in domestic cricket right now. Ishant, Zak are out because of injury. PK has proved himself. So, if he isn't ready for longer format then India will have to go with 1 pacer only in tests.
1983-2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 What's the shelf life of these two new guys, i give it 9-12 months. they will suffer ankle/knee injury and will join the list of trundlers when they come back

What about Sudeep Tyagi, strong FC record although injury prone if I remember correctly. I have no problems with Varun and Yadav being in test team but both cannot play together. Too much inexperience. Maybe rotate between them like in this ODI and see who seals the spot.

One thing I feel certain of is they won't lose their pace. They seem natural pacemen. Not ones like Ishant, Sree, old Munaf who have to be in rhythm to bowl quick for a short spell. Both these young guys need to develop how to take wickets which will come with experience. I think Aaron will make it in some format, I have doubts about Yadav.
Jersey #10 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Varun looks like a genuine pacer so I don't think he'll lose his pace anytime soon. I would actually think that he can bowl even faster in countries like Australia and Newzealand on pitches made for pace. Varun is still very young and he will only get better with age for a little bit and settle down around the age of 27, 28...

MCcricket Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Paul Allott impressed by pacer Varun By: Sai Mohan Date: 2011-10-24 Place: Mumbai Young Indian speedster Aaron impresses former England fast bowler with 3-wicket haul on debut against England at Wankhede Former England fast bowler Paul Allott reckoned India have "a gem in their hands" in the form of Varun Aaron who took three wickets on his ODI debut against England here at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday. Aaron's late burst gave ample hope to detractors who felt fast bowling in India was merely about variations and cutters. Paul Allott Firstly, he removed left-hander Scott Borthwick with a ball that kept low, but nipped back from an off-stump line to clip the middle stump. Next, he cleaned up fellow quick bowler Stuart Meaker with a yorker length ball that reversed at pace to uproot the leg-stump. And finally, he beat England's top-scorer Tim Bresnan with one that pitched middle-and-leg and kissed the off-stump. There was a slight delay in the celebration as the Jharkhand lad hadn't noticed the flying bails. A few seconds later, he saw his skipper head to the pavilion and that brought a broad smile to his face. Super swinger During the innings interval, former cricketers were abuzz with the ability of the youngster. "He's an outstanding young fast bowler. India have a gem in their hands. He uses his shoulder to good effect and can swing the ball both ways. Only thing he can work on is keeping his chin upright at the time of delivery. Otherwise, he's got all the basics right. I love his smooth run-up too. He got to reverse (swing) the ball that was only 20 overs old (after he came back into the attack in the 40th over. Obviously, he must have worked hard on that art," Allott told MiD DAY yesterday. Besides a low full toss that Aaron bowled in his first spell that deservedly got smacked to the mid-wicket fence by Kevin Pietersen, the 21-year-old quick showed immense control with his line and length. That was displayed in his pitch map at the end of the England innings. The Lancashire great felt India must take care of Aaron and injured fast bowler Umesh Yadav. Incidentally, it was Yadav's injury that made way for Aaron's ODI debut yesterday. "I think India must make a conscious effort to take care of both him (Aaron) and young Umesh Yadav -- another bowler I was very impressed with. I am amazed that neither of them played during India's tour of England." On England's total of 220, Allott felt the batsmen were yet to "crack it" with regards to batting in Indian conditions. "It's very disappointing (that we crumbled yet again). The ball wasn't turning, but they (the batsmen) allowed the Indian spinners to take so many wickets. I am worried because we (England) are to travel to India next year for four Test matches. We need to improve quickly. There was too much shuffling going on at the crease. The batsmen hadn't learned their lessons. Instead of playing with soft hands, they kept going after the ball. The footwork was also poor," he rued. Why were they not played in England defies logic , the captain, selectors should know the players they have to push for and nurture, a captain's duty is not just present but seeing the big picture.

I feel that Umesh has changed his action a bit and is getting more movement as a result without losing pace. He used to bowl very straight and accurately a couple of years back. He may have lost his accuracy due to this added movement but as he had the tendency to bowl straight, he might regain it if he practices hard .

Something about Yadav action is like Ntini's at release point, that's why he bowls into right handers pads more often. Yeah he is not as straight as before, he needs to think what will work for him to get wickets.
