From Cricinfo: Top-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been released from the Indian side so that he can participate in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy fixture against Karnataka from November 17-20 at the Brabourne Stadium. The India selectors are yet to name the squad for the third Test against West Indies to be played from November 22 at the Wankhede Stadium, also in Mumbai. Rahane remains in contention for a spot in that squad. Hopefully a good show in the Ranji trophy match and Rahane can get a game in Mumbai.

He is sharing the dressing room where he has two of the highest run getters in history of Test cricket. He still has not ironed out his defensive technique with their help. he is keen to play tests and that desire is commendable where usually the youngsters are more lured towards playing in LOIs and IPL to make money. However without the technical and mental issues he faces, it doesnt seem like he will be able to play at that level.

Some players are not made for test cricket and Yuvraaj is one. Test cricket is all about adjustments which Yuvraj has not been able to do ti his playing style. Technique aside, there are things he needed to do. Perfect technique does not ensure anyone to be a great test player. Mental aspect and will to do well at any cost is that what is more important.

Dancing donkey, Failraj, and Darty have made a career out of conning selectors and the public through their tweets and interviews. Unfortunately, such false bravado can take them to the Indian team. The manner in which Failraj was giving interviews after the World Cup regarding test matches was more or less in a fashion where he assumed his spot would be there. The media and public would have gone nuts if the man of the series at the World Cup was not selected in any Indian side. Due to these media manipulation skills we have just delayed the inevitable of chucking Failraj out for good. In some perverse way, I would want him to play in Australia, so that his true aukaad in test matches can shine through for the world to witness in all it's glory.

i think it goes beyond that. like most great ODI players that failed to make it in test cricket, he is a GREAT player of average bowling and mediocre against quality bowling. in ODIs, he could face maybe 3-4 overs tops from a good bowler and score runs easily but doing so in test conditions when the bowler is in an extended spell is much harder. hence all the runs against pakistan (facing below average bowling attacks) and all those failures outside the subcontinent. he has found a comfort zone and will never get out of it. i fear kohli might be going the same way. seems a bit suspect outside off stump and pushes with hard hands a lot like yuvraj does.

maybe he'll pull off a michael hussey and become mr. test cricket at age 33 or so.... However, he is beginning to look like the weakest link in our batting line-up and I really really want pujara to get fit in time to play a couple of ranji games prior to the aussie tour... that guy is an awesome test prospect (way better than any other middle-order youngster at the moment). Next in line would be Lazy sharma followed by gaali kohli. Rahane is less suited to the number 6 spot and should be played if one of our legends take a break.
