The former president who has courted trouble in the past with his aggressive and overthe-top assertions said China was looking to upstage India. "China's No. 1 target is the US, next is India," he told a group of select CEOs at a late dinner meet on Tuesday. Bush, the two-term president whose reign saw a dramatic improvement in Indo-US relations, also said his country's patience with Pakistan was wearing thin, according to one of the participants. "If the US had not befriended Pak, Pak would have become more dangerous. But now US patience is wearing off," he said. In the course of a free-wheeling discussion, Bush also touched upon a number of important topics. He cautioned businessmen never to do business with Russia and said the EU would have a completely different look in five years but the euro would stay. "If Iran goes after Israel, the US will go after Iran," Bush said, referring to the tense stand-off in the Middle-East over Iran's nuclear weapons programme. "While making history, timing is most important," he added. Those attending the dinner meet included HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh and ICICI Bank Chairman KV Kamath. Closed-door dinner RPG promoter Harsh Goenka, GVK group promoter GVK Rao, Bajaj Auto chairman Rahul Bajaj and IIFL promoter Nirmal Jain were also present. "This event was kept a secret because the main condition from George W Bush's office was that there will be no announcements about this engagement and no media coverage given to it. Even the list of guests was kept secret," said a senior executive from ICICI Lombard. Lurker Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 A few points: a) In spite of all strategic debacles that Indian diplomats and bureacrats make, they have done quite exemplary when it comes to reading Indian sub-continent. China and Pakistan are two countries that India have always been wary of. US, on the other hand, has spent trillions to prop us China and Pakistan to go after Soviet Union and now these two countries are royally screwing it. b) George Bush continues to remain the idiotic war monger. "If Iran goes after Israel, US will go after Iran"? WTF. Why would Iran go after Israel? They are happy increasing their influence in middle East. c) How come these right wing bozos end up in India giving speeches? Sarah Palin was in India, George Bush is in India. Seems like nobody else welcomes the idiots except us. :(

I have read few articles and I don't think Chinese were totally wrong. Nehru behaved like an idiot and poor jawans had to pay for it. Anyway, I think we for some reason we are made to believe that Chinese will attack us, they didnt in any war against Pakistan but of course we need to be prepared.

Btw, turns out that the only biological weapon that Saddam had was his own common cold that he was hoping to transmit to his enemies by sneezing in their face and the only chemical weapon was an ingenious device whose only raw material was lots and lots of Rajma. :giggle:

I hate to say this but India is not in China's league "yet" If you talk abt manufacturing efficiency, engineering capabilities, R&D spendings, per capita GDP, infrastructure, litracy rate .... it's all China .... Military is stronger than India's .... Only areas where India can beat/overtake/hope to compete is in population growth (which could have a negative impact) and where services in English are required Last year, China overtook USA as the largest automotive market in the world. This year it surpassed Japan as the 2nd largest economy in the world. It's GDP based on PPP is twice that of India's (ranked 4th). By 2020, Ind could move up to number 3 but its economy will be still around 1/3 of China's. This would be more due to advance economies slowing down and purchasing power increasing in India. A vast percent of Indian population is young, which could offer Ind an advantage if their potential is utilized properly otherwise it could create an adverse effect if enough opportunities are not created Banking mostly on a population that is proficient in English to provide low cost services to global companies shouldn't hold a competitive advantage in the long run as language can be learned. For India to be competitive, it needs to improve its infrastructure, litracy rates, make the industries more efficient. Mukesh Ambani and likes of him may be doing well but what's needed is to have a country where everyone has access to world class infrastructure, efficient use of resources, safe drinking water for everyone, better health and education facilites for everyone. Until India doesn't focus on these issues, it won't be a 'super power' .... China may have some limitations too but it's ahead of India on these fronts West is good at dividing and ruling. Both China and India need to understand this. Both these countries have their strengths and need to work on those and cooperate with each other to compliment each others strengths and weaknesses rather than see themselves as each others competitors

On the other hand if Bush and Republicans want to become friend of India and convince USA companies that India is better than China for them then I don't mind supporting Bush's views . The fact remains that Bush was the most pro Indian president of USA yet we Indians always go gaga over Obama for some unknown reasons who several times insulted India with its statements

What would China gain by going to war with a potentially big market for its products? .... Also a war with a country like Ind would cost billions of dollars or even spark a nuke attack on its territory (one of the best ways for Ind to not lose such a war) Moreover, I have read of a proposal by Russia to form a strategic china-Ind-Russia triangle. The foreign ministers of these countries meet regularly, if I am not wrong On the other hand, there are reasons for a dispute like Tibet, China's encroachment on international border, etc
