maniac Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Yaar aise to jitne bhi close mathches hue hai' date=' al would seme shady now. Why did Gibbs drop Steve Waugh? Why did Lance Klusener attempt that single? Sports is about handling nerves, the team/person who does it, wins. Lets no dilute the essence of sports by doubting every memorable event.[/quote'] I was just kidding yaar...infact thats exactly what I was implying... I think we all have a bad taste in our mouth even now the way we lost the SF and now this allegation came out of nowhere and we are analysing too much into this. But again it is fair that we are analysing this given that some of the players involved were banned for matchfixing. If Hansie Cronje of all people couldn't escape the easy money in fixing matches then clearly the declining WI team of 96 shouldn't be a hard catch for the bookies. This is just a conspiracy theory spun by me but well why limit the conspiracy theories to teams involving the subcontinent only???
jonas10 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Has there ever been an official explanation from Azhar on why he fielded first or just speculation? Any links to articles cause I cant find any.
jonas10 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I3qyMwZA9dc&feature=player_embedded If you watch this video look at 5:30 its clear hes saying something like "what the hell are you doing...dont take shots like that".
carnish Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 the game was not fixed... although the only thing i have a doubt about that game was the toss.... i know there might have been several reasons for the decision but the most important thing is was the decision after the toss was an unanimous one or was taken by a select group of players or was it completely Azhar's decision?? see we can never guess this and therefore claimimg that the game was fixed after 15 years is baseless.. had such claims from kambli come at that point it could have been different but no he remained silent back then cause what he was more interested was in getting back into the team...
CSK Fan Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Wasnt Azhar caught for fixing soon after that? How do you know which games he did or did not fix?
vamos_rafa Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Wasnt Azhar caught for fixing soon after that? How do you know which games he did or did not fix? He was caught in 2000. The World Cup took place in 1996.
vamos_rafa Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Speculations aside, Ashish Nehra had said after the 2003 WC final, that he was surprised by Gamguly's decision to bowl. He had said that in the team meeting, it was decided that they would bat first but the decision was changed at split-second. Kambli is a douche bag. Not too much to be read into. You can predict that the pitch may turn, but the extent to which it spun that day was crazy.
Stuge Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 maar kambli .. Bakwass karna band kar .you were also a part of the team ..Fixer !!
Sarkar Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Sachin was the only lone warrior in this match there was a talk at that time azza wanted to commit suicide after the semi final,s defeat. Sachin Kumble Srinath Prasad Sidhu thanks to honest cricketers and kambli i doubt he can fix matches because he was always out of the team.

mishra Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Actually if you look at it under a microscope the WI- Aus SF game kinda looks Shady too...WI cruising at one point to suddenly lose the game. Actually Lara got out. Match was in Windies pocket before that. I remember that game too.... Even to this day I am not sure that if Aussies let the Windies run so far before tightening the screws or Windies let it go? But yeah, Unlike this time around, Both the semis had unexpected results.
Sachinism Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Kambli got pi$$ed the night before the semi, woke up a bunch of team mates in the middle of the night and then has the balls to come out and say this crap. What a waste of a cricketer/person
asterix Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Anyone remember Azhar's dismissal in that match and nonchalantly he walked back to dressing room? It was the first thing that struck me while reading Prabhakar's allegations of match-fixings in indian cricket in the Outlook few months later. Bunch of effing matchfixers lead by that matchfixing captain Azhar..Just saw the dismissals..It couldn't have been anything other than fixing..
rkt.india Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Bunch of effing matchfixers lead by that matchfixing captain Azhar..Just saw the dismissals..It couldn't have been anything other than fixing.. Decision to to bowl first shocked every one on that day and we knew before the start that any team bat second has more of chance of losing the game so every one was praying that Azhar win the toss but he won the toss and still bowled and chasing was not India's forte.
rkt.india Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Tbh, no one expected the wicket to crumble like it did. Even Jaya was turning it square from over the wicket. I remember there being talk about the pitch before the game - like there usually is before a big game - and the curator said that it will hold up for 100 overs. That and the way SL raped us in Delhi contributed to the decision. No, every one knew from the start that it is an under prepared wicket and every one was hoping that who ever wins the toss will bat first and win the match. People were shell shocked when Azhar elected to bowl first and match result was decided at that time itself. Regarding Delhi match, that was different surface. Eden wicket was under prepared.
