IT is the way he struggles against certain types of deliveries. Irfan Pathan has much better technique than this guy. Was a big fan of him. It was not a blasphemy in early 2010 when Cook was averaging 41 odd with 9 hundreds in 50 odd tests and Gambhir scored 9 hundreds in 30 tests @ 57 avg. Since then this guy Gambhir has not sniffed a hundred where Cook is on the way of becoming an time great with 14 more hundreds. Gambhir has been given too many chances and it is almost ridiculous that this guy is still in team despite not scoring a hundred in three years.He needs to go from this team.

That was trade mark of Sehwag also he made his 100s big to compensate for early dismissals.Both these guys have become such a liability for the team now. Sehwag never had technique nor patience, it was given once he slowed down he would go downhill in a hurry. Gambhir I thought would evolve his technique as he had shown loads of patience to stay at the crease.I feel Cook's technique is also a suspect even now but he has overcome it by staying patient and waiting to score runs in his scoring areas. The patience which was Gambhir once displayed early in his career is gone now and he has become so fidgety and is getting out the same way all the time.The sample size is growing bigger and bigger,this guy still has not shown any improvements.
Number Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 One thing I notice in his innings during 08-10 time is how his head was so still when he played his shots. Now its very poor and falling outside off even when he plays towards mid on. Also he used to play a lot straighter.

Can't forget his innings like 205 vs Aus, T20 2007 final innings against Pak, that match saving innings against NZ when he batted for hours to save test or that 150 while chasing 300+ against SL in an odi. In my personal opinion, he needs some time out of the game and need to refresh himself.

It is much like Hayden/Langer, Greenidge/Haynes, Cook/STrauss. Both openers have to do well for a team to do well. In our case both fail. It is a recipe for disaster. Now that we don't have Dravid anymore No.3 spot cannot be expected to save middle order from new ball anymore.
vandokkum Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Gambhir just had a purple patch of 18 months or so. Other than that he has been mediocre. Even Sachin would probably be dropped if he didn't score a test hundred in 3 years. His habit of running people out doesn't help either
