Sledging doesn't always mean abusing. Sledging should be done to affect players and not just because it's your habit. Unnecessary abusing and showing gesture to crowd is useless.

There's enough on their plates already in terms of talent. If you are not good at it, then why do you want to do it? Just let it be and play like normal aam aadmis. And this whole abusing business looks pretty cool. I also use a lot of abuses in hindi, thinking it looks cool but deep down i know, it's irritating. It's just a habbit. I prefer calling them as my helping verbs :winky:

Sledging is fun but only till it doesn't get too ugly. I still don't get it though why do young players (like Virat) celebrate their centuries by swearing? :haha:

you need wit and a creative imagination to sledge effectively. most cricketers these days (indian and non indian) are just acting like spoilt brats a lot of the time and getting into petulant squabbles that make them all look like twats.

I think sledging of both Kohli and raina has lot to do with what they received from English players down in England....They were just paying back and showing them how painful it would be when u rub salt on wounds.... Nothing wrong

Sledging need not be abusing.

for indians, its the same thing. native speakers of the english language can engage in banter, i.e. witty sledging that doesnt get too personal. this often leads to hilarious incidents that are fondly remembered. indians dont have the ability to banter because english isn't their native language. so when they get spoken to by aussie/english/sa cricketers they think they are being 'aboozed'. they reply with the little bit of english that they know, i.e. saying 'phuk u' to the other guy and getting really angry. this leads to a war of words that isn't fondly rememebred. think about what nassier hussain said about a few indian fielders being donkeys. perfectly harmless comment. but for ppl in india it was interpreted as 'abooz' and everybody flipped out, saying 'phuk u' to hussain on twitter. that was an interesting case of cultural relativismismsimsm. the reverse happened when andre symonds cried about being called a monkey. thats a harmless comment in india, but elsewhere its a word associated with a history of racism, slavery, and unattractive black ppl with ape-like features. symonds took offence, and the indians couldnt understand why

This is more due to more mikes & cameras focused on players. Do you think guys like Shastri weren't doing the same in their days? To be honest it's foolish to expect otherwise when on a day to day basis you see most people using similar language. Travel to Delhi/Haryana/Punjab belt anyone and you will get the picture :winky:
