They are no more kids, that one has to sugarcoat things to make them feel better. it wont work in Sports..especially if you are in leadership position... There are enough examples of leaders from real world who have been blunt and it has worked very well... especially in high performance teams... from what I have seen, actual high performing team members (not the ones who get high ratings from non-performing diplomatic leaders :)) - like to hear honest talk and not sugarcoated stuff.

Being forthright is one thing, berating your teammates in public is another. As captain and leader, he should be honest with them and give them a piece of his mind ... but within the confines of the dressing room.

Dude you have missed the point completely. No one cares how blunt he is in the dressing room . But not even the bluntest of Captain will/should name players in front of camera and media. Its not going to help the player in anyway and will demotivate him.
