Sachinism Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Quite an f'd up selection. Irfan made the squad for the next 2 games. He's not going to Aus, so this will achieve nothing. Mithun will need match practice, so he will need to get games under his belt. Is Irfan there to warm benches? Baroda will lose a key player for their Ranji match
The Realist Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Muddled thinking by a groups of selectors who are arguably one of the stupidest in world sport. Makes no sense whatsoever - players picked for wrong formats, those who fail to perfom continue to play and some just not used at all. There is no consistency at all in the selections. However at least there is a revolving door of trundlers
Deleted_User_1 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 That's why I highlighted the last paragraph in my last post with 2 stars* for people like you. Please read it again. Team management and some senior players in Indian team believes he is the future prospect and he should be groomed Sarcasm was not meant at you, but the thoughtless selectors!!
pensionplan Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I think this is excellent selection and planning. Only regret is my personal favorite, Manpreet Gony, who was the 2nd highest wicket taker so far, is not selected. Everything else is fine. 1. Mithun is included in the squad just for the grooming purposes. There are 4 other bowlers as well who will be the first choice bowlers, as of now. 2. Selection panel wanted to check Mithun's match fitness (not match form**), so they gave him the game here in 3rd ODI and thats y Aaron was rested in this match. Aaron will come back in the next matches. 3. Umesh is not dropped off the last two ODIs. He is left out bcoz he will be leaving early for Australia. Very good planning here, must appreciate :two_thumbs_up: 4. Why pick Irfan Pathan for last 2 ODIs if he is not going to Australia? :hmmm: The ans is, selectors don't think or not sure that Irfan bowling is test standard. So, they don't want to take chance by picking him in the test team. So, why in ODIs? After Umesh early departure for Australia, 1 place is vacant. Irfan is the leading wicket taker in Ranji. So, better try him first in these two ODIs. **About Abhimanyu Mithun, team management somehow feels that he is one for the future. Thats y, in last 1 yr, they just keep picking him and keep dropping him. They thinks this Aus tour is best time to groom him as the 5th pacer.Agree Irfan is a dud and no way the selectors can be fools to go back to him. This is a good opportunity for Mithun to learn and improve upon things. Rememeber he not a first choice but gets in with the help of process of elimination and hence do not understand what this fuss is all about. Excellent call by the selectors to not fall for the hype and select Pathan.
sandeep Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Pathan should go to Australia. Something tells me he still might.
BeautifulGame Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Anyone who thinks a guy who bowls at 115K like Pathan should be selected for Australia are out of their mind.Mithun is a poor selection but but selecting Pathan would have been even worse. He could become a good ODI bowler if he maintains his swing in ODIs but in tests he would be embarrassing in Aussie pitches at his pace with the Kukabura ball. Aussies are ignoring Copeland for selection despite playing well in his debut test for the sole reason because he bowls in 120's.Here some are clamoring for Irfan to be selected who bowls in 115k's.
rkt.india Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 :hysterical::hysterical: Pathan's bowling standard is not test level, but Mithun's is? The latter is a pathetic trundler at best!!! Both are as poor.:cantstop:

Excellent call by the selectors to not fall for the hype and select Pathan. People supporting Pathan do not understand that ball does not swing in Australia apart from Perth sometimes and he bowls at mighty 120K will be cannon fodder for Aussies past 10 overs. Kookabura will be used which loses its shine and seam quicker than any other ball. He will be as good as sitting outside even if he plays. Though Mithun is mediocre as well. Not enough pace, no swing, no wicket taking deliveries, poor bowling action, in other words Rubbish. I would have preferred Vinay if they had to chose one out of these three. Otherwise, they again ignored Abu Nechim for ODI series. The guy has serious talent and it will be disappointing if we lose a natural genuine talent like Abu.
Sidhoni Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Mithun for Aus tests!! :wall: The onlly advantage is that we have a long batting lineup bcoz Ash and Mithun can also bat.
vamos_rafa Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Apart from being endorsed by Tenvic, what has that freaking Mithun done even at the domestice level to be picked ahead any other pacer? Atleast people like Irfan, Gony and Nechim did well at the Ranji trophy.

Irfan was certainly the most logical selection ATM. What has Mithun done off late? He was clobbered out of the park yesterday. I am not saying that Irfan would have done well or something, but if you consider domestic performances then either Irfan or Nechin or even Gony should have been considered.
gakgupta Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 One important question of the WTF selection. I am yet to understand the logic behind this selection while simultaneous selecting Mithun for Aussie series. So' date=' if Irfan performs well the next two ODIs then what will the selectors do. Will they again replace Mithun with Irfan. No offense but this time Cheeka is not even making an iota of sense in this selection. Even Vinay Kumar would have been better than Mithun for the Aussies series.[/quote'] Can't agree more......"so called vinay kumar would have been far better than mithun.....But MSD has high regards for line nd length trundlers than genuine wicket takers....I heard MSD praising mithun a lot after the srilanka tour....no wonder he is selected ahead of others....

He needs to work on is bowling action with his coach like Umesh Yadav did. Yadav was pretty similar to Mithun in Zimbabwe one years ago, but he worked on his bowling action, changed it a bit, came closer to stumps and now he can delivery deadly outswingers at good pace. Mithun needs just a little bit of adjustments in his action. He has age on his side. He is only 22 and should look to do this.

He certainly can't make all the adjustments when he's on tour. His current form is not the greatest and there were other one's who could have ben of greater value at the moment. The selection policy has been pretty baffling IMO.

Even I am not sure about Irfan, just coming back from injury. He has taken wickets, but he always takes wicket in domestic cricket that is not new to him and then gets picked based on that and then is dropped again because he does not have in him to be consistently successful at the highest level as a specialist bowler. The reports are coming he is bowling around 120k which can be good in England with swing but not in Australia. I would take RP or Vinay over him. If you go by performance then Gony has not done anything wrong too.
deathmonger Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Kumar' date=' Pathan, Mithun ... normal service restored to Indian "pace" attack :giggle:[/quote'] that's because real fast bowlers ishant and umesh (faster than paki tundlers) are going to oz for maiden series win where pakis get whitewashed 3-0 everytime. B->B->B->

ganeshran Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Following Team India members will leave for Aus on Dec 8, ahead of their teammates: Dravid, @sachin_rt , VVS, Ishant, Ojha, Umesh n Saha BcciIndia

It was just a ticket to Australia, I don;t think Mithun or anyone else would really be in any contention of playing there.
