Mithun aims for precision, not speed

Coached by Venkatesh Prasad, obviously..L&L bowler. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mithun aims for precision, not speed "I've not played too many international matches, I've been with the team for some time now and that helped me become a better bowler," said Abhimanyu Mithun. (AFP Photo) CHENNAI: He wanted to bowl like Dale Steyn, but after being on the move with the national team for almost two years and playing in four Tests and five ODIs, Abhimanyu Mithun is wiser for the experience. Now, he knows that mere pace won't do. Line and length is important too. "I'm not saying that I don't want to bowl at 145 kph on a regular basis, but it's more important to keep bowling a tight line. There are very few fast bowlers on the international circuit who can hit 145 kph consistently and yet maintain a tight length... It's not that easy. Though I've not played too many international matches, I've been with the team for some time now and that helped me become a better bowler. I'm improving with every match and bowling a proper line is my priority," Mithun told TOI in an exclusive chat before leaving for Australia. "I've been talking to coach Duncan Fletcher and bowling coach Eric Simmons. They have been of great help. I've also received immense support from the seniors in the team," the Bangalore pacer added. Injury to some of the senior fast bowlers has provided Mithun a window of opportunity. With the likes of Praveen Kumar and S Sreesanth ruled out of the Australia series, Mithun is hoping to peak with a sharp performance Down Under. "Yes, I am eagerly looking forward to the opportunity. I don't have much of an idea about the Australian pitches and it's going to be a completely new challenge for me. I had travelled to Australia on the Border-Gavaskar scholarship last year and played a few local matches there. But I don't think that experience will help me much now." "The Australian pitches will be pacer-friendly and you are bound to add a few yards to the pace that you normally attain on the sub-continent wickets. Therefore, it's all the more important to keep a tight length when your deliveries cross 140/kpmh marks," he said. "This is a learning period for me and I'm working hard to improve every aspect of my bowling. At the moment, my primary objective is to shoulder the responsibility given by the team management," Mithun, who had a decent series against the West Indies, added. Partnering his Karnataka teammate Vinay Kumar has also come as a big plus for the rookie seamer. "Vinay is a great friend of mine and bowling with him is always an added advantage for me. He is senior to me and guides me with vital inputs," Mithun added. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/top-stories/Mithun-aims-for-precision-not-speed/articleshow/11111840.cms

THE FIRST YEAR HE STARTED IN iIPL, I think his first few balls he touched 145 k's, his action was a bit side on, everything went down hill after the season, he suffered an injury , not major though, coaches worked on his action and he is not the same bowler, this guy could bowl 145 and get excellent bounce then, also was moving the ball in. As a rookie u are not gonna get a spot if u bowl 130 up and down stuff, line and length doesnt matter , they will hammer u, either u use ur pace or if u are good at seaming , swing, u use that with pace, that is the recipe. He seems to have none at this point, cannon fodder.

A young Srinath: di5hdzGFSE4 Sadly, not many bowlers appear to be inspired by him .... 'pace is not everything' has resulted in Ind having just a handful of quick bowlers in its history :((

dale steyn.. even bowling at 140 plus he is 10 x more accurate than mithun
Steyn does not bowl at 140+ in tests mostly it is 130-140 And some spells he increases speed,But fact is he can swing the ball away so he is effective even at 130k,But guys like mithun do not have that ability.
