Karan114 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Raina 343 runs in 16 innings at 22.9, four fifties Mukund 211 runs in 10 innings at 21.1, one fifty Kohli 110 runs in 8 innings at 13.8, no fifties (up till the first innings of the Sydney Test) Vijay 100 runs in 8 innings at 12.5, no fifties Pujara 31 runs in 3 innings at 10.3, no fifties Sehwag and Ganguly made their Test debuts outside Asia and made hundreds in those debut innings, while Dravid made 95 (and 148 against Donald and Pollock on his second tour outside Asia). Tendulkar made a century in his second tour outside Asia. Laxman took a little longer (mainly because he was sent to open initially in his career) but still did make two fifties against Ambrose and Walsh on his second tour.
daryl1985 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Stats are harshest on Mukund who had to deal with very tricky pitches while opening the batting.
Laaloo Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Stats are harshest on Mukund who had to deal with very tricky pitches while opening the batting. +++ We can play Mukund and Gambhir as openers and shift Sehwag down the order. :woot:
Magneto Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Stats are harshest on Mukund who had to deal with very tricky pitches while opening the batting. But Mukund also played 6 of those innings against a comparatively weaker bowling line-up. But he's young and hungry, and will (hopefully) learn. Raina's average is the highest at the moment. :winky: Good OP though.

Had we been playing against a stronger side with that line-up we would have been skittled even less. Raina really impressed with his application on that tour but sadly he struggled with bounce and even struggled with Swann in England. :((
Cricket Tragic Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Mukund has several technical problems as well. If he doesn't make a few changes, he will play the ball on more often than Gary Kirsten.
adi B Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 these youngsters throw their wicket away, flash or poke to much to get the feel of the ball and yeah they do get the feel in form of an edge :banghead:
adi B Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 i dont mind if they play slow, but they have to preserve their wickets, even the paki young batsmen put a price tag on their wicket
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Umar Akmal averages 41 Azhar Ali averages 32 Outside of Asia. Both faced much tougher bowling conditions than their Indian counterparts
deathmonger Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Umar Akmal averages 41 Azhar Ali averages 32 Outside of Asia. Both faced much tougher bowling conditions than their Indian counterparts no way. did you see the pitches in indies. also akmal played new zealand on flat wkts.
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 no way. did you see the pitches in indies. also akmal played new zealand on flat wkts. Conditions were far more difficult for batting when Pak toured England in 2010. Still, a lot more needs to be done. None of them are great players by any measure.
Magneto Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Umar Akmal has the promise of a Miandad but will eventually deliver like a Nazir.
deathmonger Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Umar Akmal has the promise of a Miandad but will eventually deliver like a Nazir. he's a decent player though. kind of like ishant. lots of potential, promised lot at beginning. has fallen away a lot since then.

The thing is Sehwag, Ganguly, Dravid played a lot of ranji trophy cricket before making their test debuts. Here, most of our youngsters like Kohli, Yuvraaj, Raina never played much domestic FC cricket to develop their game because they were busy playing ODI cricket for India or sitting on the bench during most test series and they cannot become test players by playing ODIs. They developed as ODI players and all three are very good ODI players. If we want to have test players, we need to let our potentially talented batsmen play FC cricket and let them tour abroad with proper A team games. We should not select test player based on ODI performances, rather select a player who has played FC matches a lot. Selectors did lots of mistakes in not selecting likes of Dinesh Mongia and Hemang Badani for tests who had more FC experience, more FC runs, and much better technique than Yuvraaj. They were not the best ODI players, but selectors went for ODI performances, same thing happened with Mohammad Kaif.

daryl1985 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 For me Pujara looked capable of becoming a very good test player. He was unlucky in South Africa. He got a couple of beauties from Steyn. I really hope his injury has not affected him too badly. I have noticed his 1st class scores have not been great since returning.
vvvslaxman Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Mukund seems to be a decent backfoot player. It is strange he struggles on the frontfoot which is bread and butter for all Indian batsmen. Rohit and Mukund are two batsmen i have some hopes for. I also have a feeling Dinesh Karthik will have a more successful re-entry. Pujara and Rahane .. need to see more. M Vijay is hopeless. Badrinath is even more hopeless. Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey are far too flashy to my liking.
Sachin=GOD Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Raina and Kohli have a lot of work to do before they can cement their places in the Test side. Pujara and Rohit are the ones to look out for IMO.
BeautifulGame Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Its always harder for youngsters to debut away from subcontinet. Kohli Pujara and Mukund all three of them faced far tougher conditions than all our seniors apart from Sachin in their initial tours.SO were very unlucky in their regard. At the moment they are under pressure for their spot as well as facing alien conditions which dints their confidence severly if they have a single failure. They need to be blooded in India were they are comfortable first and let them cement their spot.Only then they will have the confidence when they play away from sub continet and we can judge them.
