All seniors should be phased out..Give Dhoni a young team for Test matches.. Given the capabilities of captain kool (since he's the most successful captain in Indian kirket)' date= I'm pretty sure he'll convert the team to a winning one..

why not sort out no.6 first who retired 3 yrs ago?
I dont understand why some people say we need a replacement for No.6. Actually, we never found a decent No.6. Ganguly was a below average batsmen who hung on to his position because he was captain and his average of 40 odd was inflated due to his knocks against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. He was as bad as Raina outside subcontinent. He was damn smart though and he knew how to stay in the team.

Dhoni don't have the guts to drop any of the seniors. He has confirmed that by saying yesterday that BIG 3 are still the best batsmen in the team and they can't be dropped. So that means this is going to continue for another fecking I don't know how long period
What was the first thing that happened when he became ODI captain?

The Test team is much more dependent on the seniors than the ODI team was. Also, we had quite a few good youngsters for the ODI team but not many seem to be ready for Test cricket right now.

Laxman kohli out rahane rohit in and then get pujara back in the squad as backup. Kohli imo dosent have the same talent as those 3. And has been very poor in the 6 chances hes gotten. This squad need a major shock thats for sure.

to get a backuo u have to break middle finger of kohli.. Why cant people just concentare on the team sent to oz or else we have now different backup names such as Irfan,Badri,Nechim,Aaksh chopra,!urli kartik etc :banghead:

Phasing out should have started in West Indies in June, especially with hindsight the England series would have been an issue. Laxman, Bhajji, and even to some extent Dravid should have been axed before the Windies series. Raina was a mistake which everyone knew besides the selectors. Murli Vijay is unfortunately now a lost cause. Both Aaron and Yadav had entered the selectors mind by then, and yet the Fletcher and Simmons fail to fast track. And the biggest f *** up was Tendulkar, he should have played in West Indies. My team for West Indies and England tour would have been (of course with hindsight:winky:) Mukund Rahane Gambhir Tendulkar Kohli Rohit Dhoni Ashwin Ishant/Praveen Yadav Zaheer (replaced by Varun after injury) BCCI, the fans, the selectors, and players all got sucked in by the hype of battle for no.1 whilst not realizing the Indian team taking the 1st day at lords was one of the unfittest, hungover, out-of-form, under prepared Indian test team in the last four to five years.

I have always been fan of Dravid, Laxman and of course Sachin. But now time has come when we need to phase out some of these seniors. It's not only about absolute weight of runs that they might still score but overall team should shape up differently, with different kind of energy on the field. Dravid may still be scoring runs but the way he struggles nowadays and etches his way to some 50 is doing more harm to team then good. Time and again he is allowing opposition bowlers to get on top where they can dictate terms and this brings downfall to other batsmen. I don't think any young batsmen who is partnering with Dravid in one of these innings will feel at ease, at all. Laxman's failure outside sub-continent has become too repetitive to be ignored. In 2010 also, which was his best year in recent times, he bailed team out on many occasions but most of these innings came in sun-continent, other then Durban (which was his only innings of substance in series). I think seniors should be phased out starting with Laxman from Perth test.

I meant bring pujara in after the series is over. I have little doubt that pujara will be a world class player. He was unlucky his first 3 test matches but thats the way cricket is. kohli on the other hand hasnt shown anything to look forward too.

Don't agree at all. These seniors are the best options for these positions and have batted quite well apart from a few dab series' here and there. We just cannot drop such consistent performers because of a few bad innings.
Ditto...SRT is on top form, Dravid has had his best 12 months and VVS has also done ok apart from this series. As mentioned above we still havent found a replacement for Ganguly and its been 1yr+, why do you think all of a sudden we will for all 3 batsman..we wont! The likes of Raina, UV, Kohli have all failed.

At some time you have to start grooming the youngsters even if they fail. The seniors cannot continue forever. Please understand, it'll be very difficult to get like-to-like replacements..These are great players.. The 'Batting Gods'..The 'Maharathis'..So stop having too many expectations from the youngsters and start grooming them before all the Seniors retire at one go..That'll be like 'snapped bungee jumping cord'.. It'll be a free fall.. It doesn't matters if you 'go up & down' while the 'Batting Gods' are still there to guide you..

The so-called "phasing out" should have started over a year ago but when you have idiots as selectors, coaches and captain one should not expect anything forward-thinking. Its gone beyond simple evolution, now a revolution is needed. Its not only the continous defeats which are bad enough but the gutless and inevitability which is even more depressing. Its got to the stage where you expect this team to lose in every overseas test - anything else is a bonus. Bleak times ahead with no strategy in place and a captain who leads neither by example or performance.

You can drop or lose a number of vetrans at once and you do recover... Aus had theretirements of Langer, Warne and McGrath in the same test and lost Hayden soon after... We struggled for a bit in terms of performances, but we are about to move back to No/3 in the rankings and we are definitely on the rise. Given India is on the slide, IMO it is best to bite the bullet and let some of them go... SRT is not in that bracket, he is still good enough, just some others are going through the motions

Also' date=' we had quite a few good youngsters for the ODI team but not many seem to be ready for Test cricket right now.[/quote'] Not all cricketers come and shine in test cricket right from start, unless they get consistent chances they wont develop into good players. Given that we play only at home for a couple of years, RD given how he's struggling at slips and Lax with bat should make way. Only Sachin looks good in all dept as of now. We might struggle but at least it'll help build team. Its not like we're winning/drawing now anyways.

. you know Ganguly's record in England? Even in his last series in SA he was the best.
