gloryof83 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Thank god you guys are not the selectors, with all this chopping and changing we'd be fielding our U19 team in perth, led by captain viru potla. People going on and on about our batting and dhoni's captaincy, yes our batsmen could have batted better and dhoni could have set better fields. But our bowling is a major concern and is the real reason we lost. Just compare the way aussies bowled to the way we did, they hardly bowled any easy balls, maintained the pressure and got wickets. when we bowled, every second ball was either on the leg stump or short and wide outside off. Our bowlers including zak had zero discipline compared to how the aussies bowled. In the first test, we had them at 214/6 & 160/8 in both innings, but they ended up with 333 & 240. Their tail added 200 odd runns in a game we lost by 100 odd runs. In second innings they were 30 odd for 3 and hussey walks in under huge pressure, on a king pair and his place in the team in balance. What does zak do, easy ball on leg stump for 3 runs followed by a half trackker for four, releasing all the pressure and letting hussey settle. Compare this to how pattinson, siddle and hilf bowled when we were struggling, they did not give a ****ing inch. In sydney, how on earch can you concede 600 runs for 1 wicket in a day and half and expect to win the game?? How can you blame dhoni's field placements when our bowlers (zak included) cannot land 6 balls on the same side of the wicket. Granted our batsmen did not perform as expected, a good bowling unit on a helpful pitch will always beat a good batting unit. I am more pissed off at our bowler's inablity to take wickets on helpful pitchs than our batsmen's failure against a good bowling attack on helpful pitches.

Most ppl thought either ponting or hussey will get an axe. But new selection committee kept the faith in this two instead of blooding a new guy. and look what happened. These two were main reason they won the first test match.. Our three prolific guys past year or more have been 3 oldies and we hear the cry, drop them, drop them. Dravid is as fit as anyone in our team, may be fittest...Tendulkar is not too bad, still runs hard. Laxman always had dodgy ankle, even in his young days he was never a good runner.

Dravid is as fit as anyone in our team, may be fittest...Tendulkar is not too bad, still runs hard. Laxman always had dodgy ankle, even in his young days he was never a good runner. Because they already have 3 young guys at the top of the order that is why they could not take the risk of playing a completely new batting order. While Hussey and Ponting at 37 are still fitter than our 24 year olds our ATGs are 37-39 mostly liabilities on the field and the last but not the least is they have to go sooner or later and we are already very late in planning that transition as they cannot go on and on forever. I do not think that any one of the three will be there for the next away tour for India that is why the need too blood the youngster and let them blossom before a hard away tour is all the more essential. Even with all these ATGs playing together, we have not won a series in SA and Aus in this decade and there is no hope in the future as well. We have 2 experienced opener which is not the case with Aussies. I am for SRT to play and guide these guys for next 1 year or so and let RD and VVS hand their boots against NZ this year in August.

But they had time to give him long rope but that is not the case with us. Dravid is 39. How much we can stretch him. Laxman is 37, but has poor fitness how much we can stretch him too. Australia has already blooded 3 youngsters at the top of the order. Our openers are still relatively settled, especially as we will be playing at home for next 2 years that is why we can easily take chances with youngsters. Yes, we should not rightly take out out both RD and VVS at the same time but may Laxman first and then RD in the next series wrt how the youngsters perform in those home tests.

You are right in a way, Think as rkt points out for Aus it is two guys in the late 30's for us it is 3, thats makes a diff in the field. And anyway Huss and Ponting are relatively youngish, I mean not 38/39 yet. Rohit and Rahane should have played vs WI, in test 3. Give them a taste of test cricket. This has been part of the problem, not blooding the younger bats early enough.

Laxman hit a high in last 2-3 years but has really been found out in wanting conditions. He like Sehwag doesn't use the foot much and age is catching up to him. While with Sachin he looks both in top form as well as is a good fielder. Also surely you're not expecting these 3 to play in 2014, so why not try youngsters at home and give them some time in test cricket in familiar conditions and then take them to Aus, SA, England.

Indian attack looked good at times (at least during the 1st test)[/quote'] Its not about indian attack ,Its more our mindset when we see an aggressive batsman or great batsman our captains automatically goes on defensive and we do not plan against batsman ,even if we do its the wrong one ,people have had huge sucees agianst ponting by bouncing him out with bouncers but we bowled short of length and he pulled us day long ,

All 3 r worse fielders and if they r replaced our fielding willl definitely go 1 level UP...

As for the Sydney test the bowling was crap. I don't think he'll last till the 2013 Ashes. And even if he does that'll prolly be his last series cause I don't see him making too many runs against English bowlers in their home conditions.
