Glad to see Virat grab his chance. The pressure on him to perform must have been immense as he was playing for his spot in the test side, but the calm with which he batted was exemplary. Unlike Raina or Yuvraj before him, he hasn't been found out technically. Yes there are a few issues which need a lot of hard work, but not something which is difficult to achieve. It's a pity he is right now in a top 6 that doesn't know how to score. With experience he will surely do well.

Play and miss is inevitable on this kind of a track when bowling is so probing but he looked good otherwise. even SRT struggled and play and missed so much in his one of my all time favorite innings at newlands.

test cricket isnt abt playing fluently @bossbhai its abt getting through these phases concentrate on next ball and keep moving rotating strike.. and in the end he was our best batsman in the game he deserves credit sachin didn't scored naything here.. dont forget that :P

The confidence he will get from this is amazing. He will now feel he belongs. And kick on Shame we did not invest in Rohit as well, as am sure he would have got a couple of good knocks under his belt as well and also kicked on due to it

He has shown he can play on wickets which help fast bowling in southafrica in odis where others were struggling so its no suprise,But aussie never attacked his weakness that is short ball ,Wi bowlers consistently bowled short then pitched it up,he plays the pull well but he plays mostly in the air ,Too early to judge anybody.

Windies really worked him over with short stuffs. But from a confidence perspective these two outings should have helped him a lot.

His batting performance for a rookie ranks only slightly below the Perth century I watched 20 years back from Tendulkar! :hatsoff:

Definitely an impressive knock, but comparing him with Tendulkar ? LOL! FWIW, a copy of my post on the other thread.

I watched most if not all of his batting today. He did look like a much improved bat. He's obviously made a few adjustments to his technique: a) Improved shot selection: He used to keep poking at deliveries before. He showed much better judgment in this innings. b) Played straight most of the time: His natural instinct is to whip it on the on-side. He almost got done in a couple of times playing across, he straightened his bat in the last second. He definitely showed that he cares and is committed to playing tests, which is a good sign. A 75 at Perth (one of the most difficult wickets for Indian batsmen) is not an innings you can overlook. So he got everyone's attention. That said, I dont think the Aussies had worked out a plan for Kohli, partly because he is relatively new and partly because he is of lesser threat to them than the big five. The Aussie bowlers had so much success bowling full length to our batsmen, you could forgive them for not using much short stuff against our batsmen, esp, Kohli. Kohli obviously is not comfortable against short pitched stuff. The one bouncer Ryan Harris bowled to Kohli, he looked clueless. I think that's his achilles heel. How well he negotiates the short stuff may well hold the key to his success as a test player. Time will tell. In any case, given our test schedule the next two years and the vaccuum left by our ageing players, Kohli will have ample opportunity and time to mature before he is tested again outside the subcontinent.
