Mukund techinically is a better opening batsman and looked to have a better technique. Rahane while talented is over rated. He is a good ODI player

he looked useless at melbourne, but improved a little bit in sydney with some eye catching shots and batted very well at perth. i don't think much of him as a test player to be honest, he sometimes doesnt give the impression that he knows where his off stump is, he doesn't defend well and tends to play too much off the front foot. the biggest improvement i could see in him was in the way he left deliveries that he was nicking earlier on. he also has very limited scoring areas - get a lot of runs thru the onside, where he is extremely strong and has good sense of timing - but if u take away that area, he would struggle to maneuver the ball elsewhere. teams could set the right fields and then force him to play outside off, and ifthe ball is doing something he will have little option than to leave all day or he will end up by nicking one or by uppish shots like he has done numerous times in his test career already. but he is one of the best we have, and we lose nothing by giving him opportunities. he is a young guy and he does have some good fundamentals - strong onside game, a fantastic pull shot (long time since i have seen a young indian batsman pull so well) and a good drive down the ground. there is something to work with and hopefully fletcher (or the next coach, whoever) can develop his game a bit i am looking forward to seeing him score a shitload of runs in the ODIs coming up...

Aussies usually do their homework well. The only possible explanation is that may be they thought Kohli would get out just as easily with the full length too. He was the 11st best batsman in the team prior to this test.

oh we see a lot of those drives in the odis but on certain pitches, especially ones which have bounce, you cant rely on the cut and the drive. any batsman that tried driving in this series didn't get too far. its hard to drive a delivery thats pitched up and bounces a little bit higher...the timing will be off and u will nick it. this was the classic indian dismissal in england and here in australia. thats why you need guys with a BACKFOOT game, with horizontal bat shots. most indian batsmen grow up learning nothing but the cut and the drive...these are bread and butter shots in the subcon. but the guys with strong backfoot game will always be better TEST bats on most surfaces since its easier to adjust to higher bounce and re-adjust to lower bounce.

if fast bowlers bowl 145k bouncers then i have seen even tendulkar and dravid struggle. it is not how you play short ball because short ball does not take wickets most often. it is the ball following the short ball that decides the future. they did bowl some short stuff abd siddle was hooked emphatically and the short ball you are talking about hit the crack and reared up,was not that short, even the best would have found tough to handle that.

Rahane, Pujara and even Mukund are not natural T20 players so it's all the more important for them to make sure they perform in the Tests. Rohit and Kohli are a sure shot in all the formats but I see enough hunger in Kohli to perform in Tests. Rohit's comeback in odis is another positive and hope he shows up in Tests as well.
