Vijay.Sharma Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 This is a real crazy one - it was when I was like 5 or 6. My dad used to keep a beard then. And around that time I saw in some movie that the villain had a beard. Now, me being the protector of the weak, would go to my mom and want to tell her that "this guy is tricking you, lady. He is actually a villain".
bihutoli Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 :hatsoff:Here are a few: -In the States we call it a Traffic Jam, but I was 2 yrs old I think and to me it made sense that I could call it a Traffic Jelly since Jam/Jelly are basically the same thing. We were stuck and I told my mom "We're in an awful traffic jelly aren't we?" She died laughing...still tells the story. -My brother called firecrackers firecookies. -I cried for hours and was truly frightened by my dad after I overheard him tell my mom that he had "fired" someone. I took it literally and had to ask my mom later if my dad really had set someone on fire. I felt much better after I knew that it only meant losing your job. That's pretty good vocab for a 2 year old.
Alchemist Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 In one of my hindi exam, we had to write an essay on "Pahadi pe ek Ghanta". I thought it was "mandir wala ghanta" instead of one hour and wrote an essay on Ghanta and its sound. :haha:
Texy Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I had a dream that I was drowning in the river and I was tossing and turning trying to get out of the puddle...woke up and thought somehow my racing car bed came to my rescue and pulled me out of the water...I was 7 ....years later I realized that was bed wetting :((
coffee_rules Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 5th class - rate of commission - I had deduced it to be 97% When the reproduction subject was brought up in Biology (8th class , I think), I was thrilled to find out that babies are born by the union of the sperm and egg. I was so sure that it would be passed by the mouth (kiss) or sweat.

Clarke Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I was fond of the bean shaped chocolates in the 80s. That made me assume cooked Rajma/Kidney beans were 'chocolate ki sabji" even though it was nowhere near sweet.

Mariyam Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Nice thread this!! - As a kid I was under the impression that the crayons you have in junior kg will grow up to become pencils in 1st standard and pens from the 5th onwards. And in case you misplaced a pencil when you were, say in the second standard, you'd have to start at the crayon stage all over again. - We had this really huge Godrej fridge when I was 4-5. It used to emit a drone like buzz sound randomly. I think it was because the compressor had slightly moved from where it was supposed to be during shifting. For a long time (3 odd years) I used to think that the fridge had a life of its own and made that sound when it was unhappy at us. In the night, if you open the fridge , its light is a way of saying that you disturbed its sleep, I thought. All in all, I was terrified of the fridge. I would avoid going to the kitchen alone, especially at night. Sometimes before dinner my mom used to ask me to fetch stuff from the kitchen and I would be absolutely petrified at the prospect of doing that. If the fridge troubled me on a given night by making those frightening noises, I would 'get back' the next morning by closing the kitchen window so that it doesn't get enough fresh air.
Clarke Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Almost all kids having eaten meat must have made up some logic in their early years. My family's vegetarian but when NRIs visited we'd go to a good restaurant. That was where the Chicken Tandoori etc was ordered and i got a chance to try it out. Next day i let some other friends know, hey i had this tasty chicken dish yesterday. The kid from the religious Hindu family asks, where does Chicken come from ? I make it up "they let the old hen die and then use it for food". This led to some other questions, what about the fish for instance ? I don't remember the excuse for that.
nikred Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I, along with my cousin, used to think when you smash the TV screen the characters of whatever shows that is running then, would come out. My mom realizing the danger of my thought process sat me down and explained how TV works. While watching He-Man with my cousin, he finally decided to sacrifice the TV so that he can pull out He-Man. Equipped with my new knowledge I manage to evade his plan by talking sense into him. He did not buy my explanation of how TV works but he did buy the consequences he will face for smashing the TV and accepted it just isn't worth it.

Vijay.Sharma Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 This one is about my niece. She turned 7 a few days ago. My brother rarely eats non veg (in fact no one in my family eats it except me) but when he goes out to a restaurant he dunn mind having some fish. So one day he ordered for it. My niece asks him, "is that a baby fish or a mother fish?". My bro replies "it is a mother fish". My niece is in horror, and she asks him "If you eat the mother fish then won't its baby be crying and searching for her mother? Why are you maing it an orphan?" Now my brother and bhabhi are dumbstruck. Anyway bhabhi sez "No no it is a baby fish not the mother fish". My niece asks, "what?? Won't its mother be searching for it? What if someone ate me, will you not cry and keep searching for me?" Needless to say, my bro hasn't touched non veg ever since. Damn it, the incident makes me feel guilty of eating non veg sometimes.
hari504504 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 ^ "finding nemo" syndrome..kids in my extended family stopped eating seafood after watching it.

Ram Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 So touching. From now on' date=' I will make sure I eat the whole family or only anaadh fish. :sniffle:[/quote'] :hysterical: When I was a kid, I had a friend who had a lot of fancy watches. One of them had the words 'Hourly chime' inscribed on it. But since the words were small (and my englees wasnt the best back then :D), my friend managed to convince me that it was actually 'Hourly cRime' and that the watch had the ability to sound alarms whenever there was an intruder in the house. As you would you expect, I was simply blown away by it. I used to sit there and stare at his watch like it was Kohinoor diamond. It was only years after that I realized what it actually meant.
