msb1991 Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 PK and Pathan are great examples of trundlers. It is a term with no actual definition, used purely in a derogatory sense. I think we are better without it, saying what we actually mean without requiring such emotive terms.
Dravid_TheWall Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 PK and Pathan are great examples of trundlers. PK is not a trundler when he was bowling in England. He was doing plenty with the ball. But outside overcast conditions and green swinging pitch, he is a trundler. Irfan has been a trundler the last few years in all formats and all pitches.
express bowling Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Skill (movement' date=' accuracy and variety) is required, whatever the speed of a bowler.[/quote'] True. But I had written about a highly skilled bowler. If a pacer wants to become a strike bowler by bowling between 130 k tom 140 k then he has to be highly skilled. If a bowler with medium level skills wants to become a strike bowler then he has to be quicker. In the list of skills I would also include the ability to bowl to a plan and according to the situation.

I'm confused. Best to do away with this vague term!
Dravid_TheWall Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 So it is a relative term? I'm confused. Best to do away with this vague term! I think so. I watched PK live at the test matches in eng, and he was our best bowler. Really loved watching him bowl. Real trundlers are those domestic workhorses who lack the ability to do well at international level yet get picked.

'Trundler' has a million definitions from everyone that uses it. It is impossible to engage in a genuine discussion with someone who uses such vague terms.

I think we are better without it, saying what we actually mean without requiring such emotive terms. There is actually a definition for trundler. It means a handcart which holds groceries or other goods. Hence it is used for bowlers who bowls at slow pace and has no pace whether in the air or off the pitch. ( A cart moves at a slow pace as opposed to a car, bike etc. ) It is sometimes used as a derogatory term but only for a bowler who has no pace. I don't think the term is going to go away in this forum, posters just love it. :winky:

Sometimes you just see someone, and the word trundler comes to mind. It's basically someone who is a honest tryer but lacks ability and trys to keep it simple. Few people I know are like that in my area, they rely on batsmen throwing it away or they just bowl to give main bowlers a rest :giggle:

Some of the most successful bowlers in domestic cricket are labelled 'trundlers'. Or perhaps you believe that you can be a bowler who is poor domestically but good internationally over a long term period, something I think is ridiculous!

Some of the most successful bowlers in domestic cricket are labelled 'trundlers'. Or perhaps you believe that you can be a bowler who is poor domestically but good internationally over a long term period, something I think is ridiculous! There have been too many bowlers ( and also batsmen ) who have succeeded at domestic level and failed at international level. How good the great bowlers in internation cricket have been at domestic level, before they got selected to play for their country, would be an interesting study. But one thing is for sure, the top international bowlers have not necessarily been among the top 5 bowlers in domestic cricket.

Some top bowlers are not that good at domestic, whether it was lack of motivation or because they were picked early for international cricket and so did not play much domestic. I remember Trescothick averaged 28 in county when Fletcher picked him. He was a much better player than that.
vishalvirsingh Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 PK in form used to be a big Swing bowler but it seems he now a days is a slow 108K to 125K trundler- Who just varies the pace from 110K to 124K.....his faster balls are also too slow now a days still he tries a slower ball which gives so much time to batter that he can even change his shot. Dinda also bowled 3 of his 6 balls slow balls but the rest 3 were 133K+ so 3 medium pace and 3 slow and so he got 2 and cud have got 1 or 2 more as well. Irfan"s indippers also did not click - that's why he did not Suceed as much he should have, irfan has a left arm in dipper, if its going than he is bowling well else he is not. He also has a cross angle out swinger if he gets the right angle its gud , if he is not getting these balls then he will be HIT

I swear in previous CB he bowled a lot quicker like regularly 80-85mph, swing has gone too largely. I still think he would bowl well in Eng but not in other conditions.
Prakat Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 next tournament speed watch thread should be about seeing how fast we exit from it.
