The open trials by the Hyderabad Cricket Association had created a buzz, and the 21-year-old Ravi Kiran stood out sensationally with the pace that he generated. He was raw, said former India cricketer Noel David, now a fielding coach with Hyderabad. Kiran, David said, was raw, quick, enthusiastic and ambitious. An unfettered approach meant he could chase his dreams as he wanted to. We ensured that no one tampered with his action, revealed former India left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi. He was sharper than many and, I tell you, he has a superb slower one all learnt by himself. He knows his job and I can clearly see something extra in him, Joshi said. Kiran, who is scheduled to make his debut on Wednesday when Hyderabad meets Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal, was exceptional at the ÃÃets' as he had the batsmen hopping and swaying. The ever-smiling quick is not your typical fast bowler. He is lean, speaks softly and nods at practically everything that David says. He is so much like (Javagal) Srinath. His run up, delivery stride and the finish remind me of Srinath, noted David. Kiran will also benefit from a week-long orientation from Srinath that the HCA has lined up for him. The son of a lab technician, Kiran, conveying his thoughts through interpreter David, mumbled: I hope cricket gives my family a comfortable life. The lanky 21-year-old was spotted in a talent hunt from among 600 kids across the state and he was fast forwarded into the state team after four months of training at the Hyderabad state academy. The state selectors do not want him to go through the grind and consider him ready to play for Hyderabad. But the most important thing that has caught everyone's attention is the similarity of his bowling action to former India pacer Javagal Srinath. 'He is sharper than many at his age. He has got a good slower one. There is something extra in him,' said former India spinner and Hyderabad coach Sunil Joshi. 'We have not tampered with his action at all.' Ravi, who comes from humble background, is relishing every moment of his dream trip to the national capital. 'This is the first time that I have travelled outside Hyderabad. Sooda Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Will be interesrintg to see how much pace he can generate over a 6 over spell and then over 20 or so overs in a days play. Short bursts at the net are one thing FC cricket something else, still good to hear these guys are being found.

We need find more so that we can chose best of them to play most often and others can stay in reserve pool. Look at where we were on England tour when we had to recall RP Halwaayi to bowl for us in a test. We need a pool of capable fast bowlers in case of injuries. VK and Aaron right now are only proved good for ODIs. VK could not prove anything even at Perth in test and it will be hard for him to become a successful test bowlers. He still will be useful in ODIs. Selectors need to differentiate the formats and play different bowlers in different formats.
