But considering both of us have lived in United States for a while, maybe we have had similar experience, and perhaps you have an answer to this. You are right that most Americans wont be able to locate India on the map. That's down to the whole "We are greatest country in the world, and we do not need to learn anything" syndrome. I bet most Americans wont be able to place Germany (say ) on the map either. That's just lack of geography prevalent everywhere. That does not bother me much. What does bother me though is a lack of interest in India. Aside from the Fareed Zakaria's and CNBC's news channel about growing Indian economy, by and large mainstream America is still where it was about 20 years with regards to India. If you take a walk on Las Vegas strip (for example) it is largely the same (with regards to Indian context). Nothing remotely resembling Indian theme and two cr@ppy restaurants buried in a strip mall where Indians make a bee-line. Somehow we, Indians (NRIs and Residential) do not seem to have a dent in American landscape nor have we been able to build a brand value really. Have you noticed this too? xxx We are talking about Mainstream America. They care less about any other country. As you said the image building comes from the immigrants and we have not cared much to build that. The stereotype of Indians living abroad hate India is a sad grim picture (refer to Seinfeld episode). May be offerring a 6 $ Indian food take out would change that. 00s onward there have weird Indian characters in TV shows. Started in ER, Office etc. Probably in another 25 years, we would be where Chinese were in the 90s. Academic and now in Business circles, India is well known and a lot of people would have gone to a Indian restaurant at the most. I bet they wouldn't know about Shah Rukkkkh or follow India's pop culture references.

Obviously we aren't that great (or interested) in the arts or sports traditionally, so the representation is smaller. Plenty of engineering/science/business school deans, several absolute top class scientists, plenty of topflight CEOs, many wall-street scamsters, many top startups, you name it. Trying to 'attract' the average American living in countryside is an exercise in futility. Talking about pop culture, from Big Bang theory, to the "good wife", to parks and recreation, to 'rules of engagement' etc, plenty of solid roles for Indians.

I have also seen plenty of well-respected Indian healthcare professionals in countryside America, not to mention small businessmen who have carved out a good living and employ rural locals. Heck, 2 current guvnors are of Indian origin - one is the daughter of a "raghead"- in a largely rural state. Asian-Indians are strong, solid, no-frills contributors to society.

The JuD chief has even offered to help him with his stay in the country, adding that Shah Rukh will be respected in Pakistan, reports The Express Tribune. Saeed's invitation comes in response to Shah Rukh's recent statements in a magazine about life as a Muslim in India. Shah Rukh said that he sometimes becomes the inadvertent object of political leaders who choose to make him a symbol of all that they think is wrong and unpatriotic about Muslims in India. He further said that rallies have been held where leaders have exhorted him to leave and return to his "original homeland". Shah Rukh said that despite being an Indian, whose father fought for the freedom of India, there have been occasions when he has been accused of bearing allegiance to the neighbouring nation rather than his own country. Saeed is considered as most wanted terrorist by India for his alleged association with Lashkar-e-Taiba and its anti-India activities.
