So this is a breakaway thread from earlier conversation with Mcenly where I processed the data he has posted so far (pun intended) and conjectured that he works with large data/ Machine Learning. I know what some of the posters do @work generally, but it would be interesting to see what people are upto these days, i.e. what problems they are currently working on, challenges/successes so far and implications in long term. Obviously some (a lot?) of the work maybe confidential, so you can be as vague or as specific as you want to be. Doesn't have to be CS?math/science/IT/ either. If you have an interesting management/consultancy problem, feel free too :hatsoff:

Working on implementing Compliance based regulations (Dodd-Frank Bill, SEC regulations) in a leading rating agency. So it’s a combination of business process re-engineering and some technology changes to existing platforms. One of the things we are working on right now is to make sure that a ratings action gets displayed in the company’s public portal before it gets displayed in the internal product portals as it is a SEC reportable violation if it happens otherwise. The idea is if a ratings actions (say JP Morgan getting downgraded) gets exposed to internal product portals before it is displayed to the world, there is risk of potential insider trading based on that information. And the moral of the story so far - Corporations give a sh!it about clients/customers. All they care about is to ensure they are not sued. :hatsoff:

It's not just corporations. Any institution - including public schools, universities - operate under this paradigm.
