Find a native who has a DL/Passport/Ration card and get it in his name...It is not possible for ordinary foreigners to get SIM card in India, easily. You can enable Intl roaming and pay a limb to use it in India. Or for a fee you can have a Data plan purchased here along with Intl roaming also. I could get IPL tickets all over the place , go to any popular Mall.

any friend of yours who lives in India ? take his help and get a sim card under his name .Use it while you're in India ,then give him back when you go back . I always do that when my cousins come from aboard .

you are foreigner lol. I could not get prepaid card in hyderabad, even though I had all the IDs. I had to use my brother in laws ID. You definately need local help here...

welcome back boss after 3 1/2 months. as people have already said, get a simcard under a friend or family members name and dont forget to destroy it when you leave india

Got an Airtel 3g sim card by filling out a form and submitting my pp copy (they had a copier in their store). Sim activated in an hour, but was unable to use 3g data because of lack of coverage.

On something unrelated, if I have transit in UK, and the connecting flight is after 9 hrs..I can get and come back in? do I need to take out my luggage?

Once you're done, come back, collect your baggage and catch the transit flight. Re the SIM, get someone to buy you one, use it whilst you're there and give it back to them once you leave. You can buy an international SIM but be prepared to fork out a fortune in roaming charges. On a side note, Bade Miya is still there :dance:

Go to a small galli shop instead of one on the main road or outlet store. They make it easier. Stick with Airtel.
well the documents have to be submitted to Airtel or any provider, doesn't matter where yo uget it from. If Airtel rejects it your SIM will be deactivated in 48 hours.

You can go out and come back as you please just allow enough time for travel / security check / immigration.
