CHENNAI: Gautam Gambhir's dazzling form and the aggressive streak in his captaincy has helped KKR make it to their maiden IPL final and the skipper warned his opposition on the eve of the final that he and his wards won't be there "to just compete but to get results." "When you go on to the field, you do not go there to make friends but you are there to get results in your team's favour. You have to be aggressive on the field. That is how we have won matches and now we are in the final and not to just compete," the aggressive Delhi lad told the mediapersons during the pre-match conference, here Saturday. Asked about his aggressive nature, the southpaw says that it works for him. "If I have to be aggressive on the field, I have to grab that energy. The other thing is that the 11 people make a successful captain. So, I have undermined my role as a captain. I always believe individuals should contribute to the team's cause. They are bound perform and they are picked to contribute." Beating Chennai Super Kings in their own backyard is an onerous task and Gambhir believes that his boys are up for the challenge. "No doubt that they are playing in their own backyard. They are two-time winners and they know how to play in the final. I always believed that in a big game like, it's a 50-50 case at the start. We have to be on our toes. We need to give more than hundred percent.'' "I think we play very good cricket and there is lot of quality attached to our game. Not only this year but people were talking about our team last year too and just one bad game and we finished fourth. Hopefully, we can play some good cricket and see where the result goes." For Gambhir, the support they have received from general Kolkata public has been fantastic and it's time that KKR win it for their fans. "You do not walk on to the field to play as an individual and we play for the Kolkata people, who have been fantastic support to our team. They have supported us even when things were not going in our way," Gambhir said. "When we go onto the pitch Sunday, we will give our hundred per cent and KKR is not one or two individuals but it is about millions back home who have been supporting us. They supported us in all our bad times. They have always been praying for us. When we walked tomorrow, there will be no shortage of our effort and hopefully we can try and win the title and give them the joy. Kolkata after all is always known as a city of Joy," he concluded.

Not in that way:PHope he bowls well even though I support :csk:
A great talent wasted due to injury :( . He is a highly injury prone bowler. Doesn't mean he is unfit. Even the fittest guys can get injured. But his first injury was so serious. Very likable and quiet guy unlike the show pony Sreesanth

bala has been a revelation this season. Yes he had the support of abdullah, kallis, lee, sakib, narine and others but he was brilliant to say the least. No wonder his eco. rate is less than 6 this season. Last year bala got KKR into a mess by giving away 23 runs in the last match of the league resulting KKR being forced to play the eliminator, which they ended up losing ofcourse

Agree with most of the comments, such as: -heavy impact of the toss: batting first is indeed a big advantage and the obvious choice for both captains. -Narine: has been in excellent form, and took out the likes of Dhoni, Vijay and Raina when he played them in the CL. Also gave problems to Hussey in their last game. CSK batsmen will have to be patient against him but still take chances if they get them. As good as Narine is, he has also been hit for boundaries and if CSK manage some early boundaries off him then the pressure will be on the fielding team. -Gambhir is the key wicket for CSK. Once he gets out they should look to contain the run rate, because if they do so I believe the wickets will come by themselves. -Team selection: CSK should remain unchanged, I would be genuinely surprised if they changed the team. KKR might remain the same, although I'm not 100% sure about Shakib and Shukla. -McCullum hasn't been his old self this season, but if he gets going early it would be a huge boost to KKR and relieve the pressure down the order. All it takes is for Gambhir, McCullum and Pathan to have a decent game. -Whoever bats first should look to post 180+ to be in a strong position. Bowling: KKR have Narine as an emergency man. If CSK start slow then Gambhir shouldn't turn to Narine and should leave him as late as possible. He also has the luxury of choosing between 5 other bowlers for the remaining 4 spells (Bhatia/Kallis/Abdulla/Shakib/Bala the G). He will want to go for spinners against foreign players, pacers against Indians. CSK have a lesser emergency man in Ashwin who can slow things down on a good day. Hilfenhaus should open with the new ball, and shouldn't be given too many late overs. Bravo and Morkel are the other pacers, and on current form Bravo could get a couple of late overs, and Jakati is the specialist spinner. Jadeja and Raina can be turned to if the pitch is really turning, although I would avoid the latter if it isn't necessary. Batting tactics: -a fast start by CSK might force Gambhir to use Narine more than he wants to. CSK will ideally be looking at a couple of boundaries an over regularly from the likes of Bhatia, Shakib and even Kallis. -KKR's advantage is that none of the CSK bowlers are unplayable. Hilfenhaus, Morkel and Bravo have all been hit around the park at the some point. If Raina or Jadeja step in they should look for a big over in order to limit Dhoni's possibilities. Hilfenhaus will bowl 2-3 early overs, and if McCullum and Gambhir can punish him the pressure will be on CSK.
Good post.
