It was heartening to see someone make it big in bollywood without any family backing. In the recent years, his movies have been mostly crap, and his theatrics overbearing.

It gets on my nerves, he is everything I despise about Bollywood. But then again I don't hate him as a person.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Baazigar, Darr - worth watching even now too. I sometimes get a feeling he's afraid to experiment.

I sometimes get a feeling he's afraid to experiment.[/quote'] And out of the lot only Baazigar was a hit :giggle: You can include Darr as a success too, but it was more due to Yash Chopra banner than SRK..and most people who like Darr, and there are only a handful who actually do, dislike SRK ham-act in it. SRK has perhaps done more experiment than many all-time greats. I include Amitabh Bacchan in this wretched lot who only went on celebrity status. Fairly recently SRK had Chakde India and Swades, both perfectly good subjects and not your usual masala movie. Not a big fan of SRK but his movies are more a testament of cine-goers of today than his fault.

And you saw aamir and sallu giving a speech for SRT but SRK wasnt even invited? SRK has more cricketing ties than these two... but didnt get invited.. And on your second point.. try comparing other celebrities doing that same show.. you'll see the difference. And also it wasnt just this tv show that i am basing my judgement.. but it's hard to convince ppl cuz i was on the same boat as you until last year.. so dont blame you. Lol did you know that when SRK was detailed in the US when he had gone to Yale to deliver a speech, he traveled with Neeta Ambani (her daughter is the head of South Asia society at Yale which had organized the lecture) on Ambani's private jet? Bet you didn't. Google is your friend.

Surely they are both different and in their own ways successful. Also very different star. No reasons to compare the two really. Look at his role in Chak-de India. Find me an Indian actor who can get that physical to play a game of hockey and pull it off fantastically. As a gym-holic I can assure you, for what it is worth, that getting in shape for Gajjini and Dabbang is lot easier than getting sports fit. Which is why I absolutely appreciate Irfan in Pann Singh Tomar too. This whole experimentation thing is taken far too literally. Surely there is more to this than Amitabh selling toddy in Saudagar. Amitabh has taken more risks than Shah Rukh. At his heights he tried Main Azad Hoon, Akayla. SHarabhi (no ham acting that). Oh lets snap out of that please. Amitabh was hardly taking risks at his peak. The movies you mentioned came at the tail-end of his career when he was way past his sell date. The only difference there is Sharaabi but how is that taking risk? That was a typical masala movie. Daroo peene waala bade baap ka beta who falls for a tawaif with a handful of good songs and a great naukar played by Om Prakash. If thats not typical Hindi masala movie I am not sure what is. By the way here is a question for you - When did Amitabh ever work in a movie with Gulzar, or when was a Gulzar song picturised on Amitabh? Not saying thats remotely the only criteria but surely it says something....no? xxx

I would commend SRK for his roles in Chakde India (2007) and Swades (2004) but I wouldn't call them "fairly recent" as they are more th an 5 years old. In comparison to Aamir, he always takes the "known route" is all the point probably most of us our trying to make. The frustration on one part is that he's a brilliant actor who for some reason never ventures out of his nest.
