I've seen him switch to Hindi when he has problems articulating himself in English. If you watch the Arnab interview from 2009, after the first few minutes he pretty much answers everything in Hindi. From what I saw in India for a month, Modi seemed like a viable PM candidate and I saw his Hyd speech live (on tv). No matter what Cong/Secularist/BJP moderates are saying about Modi's polarising image, his influence is increasing and he is projecting himself as a PM candidate. BJP moderates are also warming up as there is no other leader in BJP who can mobilise the party as much as Modi now. Have watched a lot on youtube mainly from his supporters / critics. For secularists, even Vajpayee was communal and divisive, so there is no debate on Modi being the same. I think post-Godhra, he has worked hard on erasing it with good governance/admin. Right now, anybody seems to be better than Cong/Rahul. Well, what is happening in UP is clear indication that nothing has changed from 2002.

The election strategy for Modi seems to be his good governance/tarakki image for the rest of the country, while in UP it is divisive politics on communal lines like in 1992-1998. People's lives and properties are at stake. You are unlikely to encounter many voters who are say slightly inclined against Modi, but will get swayed to vote for him once they find out he is an OBC.

Can't recall the source right now, but remember reading somewhere that there have been around 400 communal incidents in UP over the past 5 years. However, what the BJP/VHP are doing now is trying to exacerbate the situation to an entirely different level. They are trying to recreate the '90-'92 like large scale rioting and communal violence. I hope you will agree with me that the frequent small scale communal incidents that we are seeing currently is a different animal altogether from the mass hysteria and violence of the early 90s.

All this farzipanti on day one of their website launch! Reminds me of similar attempts by Congress during the Gujarat assembly elections in 2012 through their 'TUlika' ads, used plenty of fake photos and the entire campaign bombed. Also, is the launch of the site an open admission by the anti Modi cottage industry that their attempts to trap him in riots cases have failed?

ABVP thrashes FTII student for not saying ‘Jai Narendra Modi’ When Ajayan Adat walked out of the Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) performance on Wednesday night, he was satisfied. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) student had helped organise KKM’s first appearance on stage, after allegations that the cultural troupe had Maoist links, and it had ended smoothly. But it was soon after that he was confronted by an activist of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who demanded to know why FTII had invited the artists. “Why did you invite the Kabir Kala Manch? Are you a Naxalite?” the ABVP activist asked Ajayan. “When I said no, he asked me which party I support. I said I am an artist and do not have political affiliations,” Ajayan told The Hindu. “If you want to prove you are not a Naxalite, then say Jai Narendra Modi,” the ABVP activist stated. When Ajayan refused to do so, the activist shouted, “He is a Naxalite,” after which he was surrounded by other ABVP activists, who started assaulting him, Ajayan has alleged. Four other FTII students were also injured. “We knew the ABVP members watched Anand Patwardhan’s film Jai Bhim Comarade which was screened before the KKM performance. I thought they were ready for a healthy discussion,” Ajayan said. Accusing FTII students of having Naxalite links, the ABVP called for a police inquiry on the institute on Friday. “Inspite of being government-run, the FTII invited Kabir Kala Manch members who have Naxalite links. We urge the police to investigate the anti-national forces behind this,” Anand Katikar, President of the ABVP Pune Unit stated. The FTII Students’ Association has also alleged that a policeman in plain clothes was present when the scuffle broke out, but refused to act. “We had provided police bandobast for the event but the police had left before the fight,” Police inspector Manohar Joshi responded. Condemning the incident, FTII Director D.J. Narain said, “The faculty, students and staff are dismayed and shocked over the turn of the events and the way the students were assaulted. This attack on the students is an attack on the very creative foundations of FTII and is unacceptable to the institution.” FTII students have planned a march in protest of the attack on Monday. “The Students’ Association of FTII is not affiliated with any political party. We are artists and filmmakers who believe in freedom of self-expression through the medium of films, music and theatre. As soon as the Kabir Kala Manch Members finished their performance, the ABVP members started interrogating the FTII students and verbally accusing them of indulging in anti-national activities by calling KKM to perform in public. The FTII students’ association members retorted by saying that, we all are aware that KKM is a cultural organization and we support their performances which are anti-caste and superstition. Hearing this the ABVP members started shouting slogans – as “Bharat Maata Ki Jai” “Vande Mataram” and “Down down Naxals.” One of the ABVP members slapped an FTII student, after which some of the other students intervened and started to cool down the situation. The moment technical team is available the mistake will be rectified and photographs replaced by correct photographs from Gujarat. Due to last minute low resolution problem of some of the photographs the technical team replaced them accessing photos from the net & in the process making the mistake.
