If it is your own analysis then beleive me you cannot be more wrong, first time I have seen many hard core Congress supporters voting for BJP and when I asked them the reason, "It is only due to Modi". This is the first time in electoral history I am seeing the people at village level talking about this man. Anti Incumbency for Rajashthan , man Gehlot is a thousand times better CM then Vasundhra Raje can ever be, most of my Rajasthani friends tell me but the only reason Congress has been literally vanished from the state is due to Modi effect. Was their no Anti inciumbency before in Rajasthan, tell me a single time when oppostion has been wiped off. Whenever you next time visit Noida let me know, I will take you to the rural areas of Rajasthan and Western UP. We will have cup of tea with the village people and then you will realize the affect. Gehlot did so badly this time that he didn't even have the support of many of his own party's state leaders. There was massive anti-incumbency against both his Govt. and the UPA Govt. Add to that the fact that the state BJP was not a divided house like last time. Modi had very limited impact (if any).

Have talked to a plenty of people and the Modi factor is a huge point of discussion among a section of middle class folks who keep positively reinforcing each other's beliefs. The same thing happened during the 2004 elections in which BJP was widely expected to win. Outlook awarded them 330 votes during a pre election poll IIRC. Elections however are not decided by the middle class but by how the poor people sway. I am yet to meet a rural person going ga ga over the supposed Modi factor. the elections in villages are decided on local issues, caste, anti incumbency etc. Central leaders play little role here. The biggest swings are brought on by anti incumbency and alliances with regional parties.

Agree..Modi has successfully created an euphoria and BJP is able to sell him as clean and efficient administrator..He has become a mass hysteria..His oratory skills where he plays to the gallery also helped..He was a darling of urban middle class, but I can clearly see BJP has been able to sell him to rural sections too. I am sure there was some vote swing due to NaMo.

AAP capitalizes on anti politician sentiments and people have voted for them without any track record or clearly laid out policies So Behti Ganga har kutta haath pav mooch sab dhota hai. The BJP's Mumbai unit has invited tea vendors in their thousands to send a strong message to the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, which has attacking Modi's background. "Around 10,000 tea vendors from the city will be invited to attend Modiji's rally. We will send invitations to them soon," a party functionary said on Wednesday evening. Since he was named the party's prime ministerial nominee, Modi has been referring to his humble background as a tea vendor to strike a chord with the common people and to take on Nehru-Gandhi family. "By inviting tea vendors, we will send out a message to Congress," the functionary said. Apart from 5,000 private buses, the state unit has also booked 20-22 trains to ferry its workers from various parts of the state to attend the rally to be held at MMRDA grounds. As many as 20,000 students from the city will also participate in the rally through BJP's Yuva Shakti campaign, a party leader said. According to an office-bearer, state BJP leaders want to make the rally a big success by attracting huge crowds similar to Modi's Hunkar rally in Patna. While Congress has accused Modi of playing to the gallery by referring to his humble background, senior party leader Digvijaya Singh recently said even a 'chaiwala' (tea vendor) can become prime minister of the country. Recently, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Naresh Agarwal created a flutter, saying "someone rising from a tea shop can never have a national perspective".
