So the wall has gone, and rather than throw in a rookie into one of the most difficult positions in test match batting, should our legend and icon put the team ahead of himself and bat at three? He has the experience, technique and skill to flourish and would be preferable than having Kohli or Pujara there, in the early days of their test career as a sitting duck. Convincing him to do it will be the hard part as he seems very reluctant to move from his favoured 4 spot.

Despite changing positions form 3 to 4 is not considered a big thing, No i cant! He's settled in at 4 and never really if at all played at no 3 and plus we need a specialist number 3 in future now dravid has gone, Kholi is perfect! tbh the quicker tendulkar goes the better (no harm intended), or even better when laxman is going to retire is really the question! I want to see young people getting a shot like rahane, rahadu etc

Depends on who can take over If Pujara or Rahane was to take over then yes Tendulkar should stay no.4 but if we are to bring in Rohit or Raina to replace him then Tendulkar has to move up to 3.

He should simply quit. We already have likes of Rohit, Rahane, Pujara on the bench and there's no point in Tendulkar playing 2 more years at home and leaving us in the lurch when we travel abroad. Best option is for him to call it quits sometime this year so that youngsters can et a chance to fit in the team and we don't go through the 0-8 disaster again.

I doubt Tendulkar will retire anytime soon Laxman will retire first, Tendulkar will probably retire when youngsters like Pujara, Rohit, Kohli have settled in their new positions Sehwag Gambhir Pujara Tendulkar Kohli Rohit Dhoni

Kholi at 5 is useless, we need him to cement his way into number 3, number 5/6 are arguably the two least important positions when comparing them with 3 and 4( bear in mind the other positions are taken by GG/Dhoni n seh)

Since other than Virat no one is on form, Virat deservs the #3 spot. Tendulkar should bat much lower order now; I know this may risk his making more centuries, but it will make lot of pressure off from him and hopefully score something affordable for team. On other hand, our future captain is in fine knock, its more logical playing Virat at front will give more breathing space for other outformed/under-performing cricketers in Test.

I voted yes but now im not so sure because if we lose him early, the rest of our batting line-up will be exposed. If Pujara or Rahane stand out in this A Tour i would send them in at 3 and if Rohit is the stand out player i would send in Kohli at 3 with Rohit at 6. Also with SRT coming to the end of his career what good would it do to change his position as we would be looking for another number 3 in 2 years time. I would vote no if i could cancel my original vote.

Whether Sachin retires or not, what is the difference. IMHO, he has already tarnished his legacy over the last one year. For selfish reasons, I would still like to see him bat, that is if he plays well. I frequently watch his 1st 4 innings in Aus and wonder what if he had gone on to make them big ones. He played so well until he got out! Oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am biased here but I dont see Sachin retiring from Test cricket anytime soon Pujara/Kohli/Raina/Rohit have hardly played any Test cricket and need time to get settled in and our selectors need time to see who sinks or swims in Test cricket With Dravid retiring we have created a space for at least one of Pujara/Rohit/Raina to cement a place for themselves

Even if Tendulkar wants to retire, the billions in commercial interests riding on him will not let him. A retired cricketer is not going to mean much for the advertisers. I think Tendulkar will keep on playing till he can carry himself and his bat to the field.Dont expect him to make a dignified exit like Rahul Dravid. Regarding his batting position, even if anyone wants him to change his order, Tendulkar is not going to budge from his No 4 position. We saw in England-Dravid and Laxman were moving up and down the order, but even in the worst crisis situation, Tendulkar did not shift.

I am not sure it would make much of a difference to bat him at 3 or 4. The output from Tendulkar will not change whether he bats at 3 or 4 now. What needs to be considered is how it would benefit whoever replaces Dravid in the team by coming in at 3 or 4. So if coming in at 4 helps Kohli bat better then Sachin should play at 3 but if it helps him bat better at 3 then let Sachin come in at 4. In fact it should be case by case, if the openers have given us a good start then it is better Kohli comes in at 3 but if we've lost the first wicket for less than 30-40 then Sachin should come in. I know this would mean we will be risking Sachin very early but I'd like to look at it from a perspective where Sachin could counter attack or steady the ship better than a rookie would.
