Dravid_TheWall Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Just wondering which ICF peeps have been regularly bowling well whether in the nets or for a club. Particular in reference to seam bowlers. I have had a lot of mixed success. It is difficult to maintain accuracy due to my action but I have been taking wickets. Usually lbw, bowled, due to inswing and also due to natural sling action with the fingers usually pointing towards the batsmen rather than slip/gully. However worst time was last week, when I didn't take a single wicket and didn't look like taking one. It was like RP bowling in the england tour except I got pretty mad at the batsmen and also my fellow bowlers who were doing better! One thing I noticed is I can remove someone when they are new to the crease but afterwards they said once they are used to my action and speed it becomes easy. I have been trying to bowl a slower ball but can't land it where I want unless it comes out of the back of my hand which is a giveaway!
Dravid_TheWall Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Just to add I am not a pressure building bowler sadly. I can't do it. I can bowl crap for a few deliveries like wide ones but then I can dismiss the batsmen with a good delivery. Lacking stamina, think that is why I get worse as time goes on. Hopefully will improve by going on more runs.
Dravid_TheWall Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I haven't played for so long. :girl_sigh: Why not? Do you miss it? I love english summer, beautiful green pitch, also the happiness and calmness I feel is amazing. You just don't feel that in other sports!

The back of the hand slower bowl is not an easy one to bowl especially with a slinging action. It's best to bowl it when you have an seam upright action.

flamy Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 You mean you are busy playing croquet with your whitey friends. :beee: It is quite absorbing!
Zelig Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Try to bowl outside the off stump (corridor of uncertainty) and stop trying to hit the stumps with every ball that you bowl. It will bring discipline to your bowling. You can still hit good length areas with your slinging action. If you are a slinger and wanna bowl a slow ball, try squeezing the ball with your thumb at the point of release. It will wobble the seam around, which will make it even more deceptive. It's quiet difficult art to master, though. But with practice comes perfection :om:

rkt.india Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 if you cant bowl leg break slower bowl, bowl deep palm slow ball. It is the toughest to assess for a batsman. Keep the ball deeper in your palm than normal and don't change anything else.
Cricketics Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I am more of a bowler. Just forget always bowling wicket to wicket. My advice to you. Pick your best 3 fielders who you think would take catches. Put them on three slip positions. Now bowl to your field. You know the batsman knows that bowler is confident and that he has set up an attacking field. Now be consistent on that line and move the ball or even bowl good length. May you find an edge and may I go on to represent Team India

It's best to bowl it when you have an seam upright action. I know it comes out crap and never lands where I want it to. However, I generally have trouble bowling a slower ball with this action. Might need to see how other slingers do it. I am no where near as slingy as malinga and he can do it.

Yeah I don't think I bowl that often in that corridor. Probably couple of times in an over. Get carried away with full deliveries or too short.

I remember as a kid my brother could pick all my slower balls but once I bowled one through fluke with the same action but much slower and he didn't pick it until he was early in the shot. Problem I have is disguising my slower one so will try this out. This is because I jog in but once at the crease there is really strong shoulder action and somehow I can't do that with a slower ball. I will try deep palm and see how it goes.
Dravid_TheWall Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 go Sree' date='u can still comeback.u r at right place 4 advice[/quote'] Bro the guy is world class skills wise, don't need no coach. He just needs discipline and to be injury free.

You can also try the 'knuckle' ball like Zaheer bowls - it will be difficult to control initially but should come out well on practice.
