Dartbhajan Singh is close to agreeing a deal with Essex to play the latter part of the English darts season, ESPNcricinfo understands. The move will not include the Friends Life t20 due to contractual issues with the BCCI but he is set to be available once the County Championship resumes. If the deal is completed Essex will be Harbhajan's second county after previous spells with Surrey where he collected 57 first-class wickets at 21.10 across two separate stints in 2005 and 2007. Harbhajan has been out of favour with the India selectors since being injured on last year's tour to England and has been replaced in the spin department by R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha. Essex have had a difficult time trying to retain overseas signings and recently lost the services of Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, who had been due to be available for all formats including the FLt20 before the Bangladesh Cricket Board declined to give him a No Objection Certificate. Peter Siddle, the Australia fast bowler, had also been due to play for them but that fell through after he returned home from the West Indies injured. Essex are currently seventh in Division Two of the County Championship and Harbhajan would bolster a darts attack that is currently in the hands of Tim Phillips, a left-armer, 22-year-old legspinner Tom Craddock and offspin from Greg Smith. http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2012/content/current/story/569147.html

Good news for Bhajji . Hopefully he does manage to get the contract and the BCCI allows him to play. More FC matches he plays better for him. I am surprised why Ojha hasn't gone back to Surrey. Helped them get promoted to Div 1 last year, we do not play tests till 3rd week of Augustand he could easily have played 7-8 FC matches for them.

+1 Good luck to Bhajji. Can't understand the negativity towards him now, specially when is not blocking anyone's place in the team. He is 32, if he makes a comeback then it'll be good for us as there are no good spinners coming.

:cantstop: Being serious hes got the potential to make a Test comeback. Good luck Bhaji.
based on what? surely not the last 7 years of his kirkut career.

Without him getting doosra going dunno how he is going to be effective. There are some pitches where darts work. But overall his darting is what caused his downfall.

Played too much cricket lost everything that made him a deadly bowler. Now he has time to work on his action and doosra, he will play first class cricket and won't play too much. Hope he perfects his technique and goes back to his old days, we need a good spinner current lot is so useless and has no potential. I mean Rahul Sharma is a prospect for tests... Ashwin is not a test bowler, doing well against WI doesn't count. I can't think of any spinner that's failed against them recently.

Rahul sharma has to prove in domestic circuit first. His four over spells in IPL can't give any indication of his bowling skills at test level. Having said that he outbowled Bhajji for Punjab. Bhajji is that much bad these days. Can't pick up wickets anywhere against any team.

Yeah but class is permanent. Potential wise he can be world class and Rahul will remain average at best. Bhaji has time now to play FC cricket and work on his technique he didn't have that luxury before Ranji.

Harby is looking for alternative sources of income. With bad IPL and domestic season some months away i dont think he has a chance to be picked up for the Indian team atleast for 2-3 months more. this maybe good for him in the long term. being a spinner he definitely has a lot of cricket left in him. Wishing him good luck. we need people competing for the top spot can't let Ashwin be complacent
