I'm in India at the moment, but live in Sydney. That should probably explain the reasons for the simmering dislike of England and it's sporting teams to you. Besides, there's nothing factually wrong in what I posted is there? Remove your fanboy glasses off of spectating the England team and think about it - are Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Andrew Flintoff, Michael Vaughan and dare I say it - Andrew Strauss really legends? Please. I suppose the Queen still loves me. Australia is part of her job desciption too ya' know? :icflove:

He then tripped, fell flat on his face and couldn't ton up at Lord's for the only time in his career he got a useful start. One of the numerous instances he made a fool of himself. Flintoff was a bits and pieces cricketer - could bat a bit, could bowl a bit, and was terrible in the field. Like Ravi Bopara. Like Samit Patel. Like Michael Yardy. Like Luke Wright. Like . Difference was, he performed in a couple of games against Australia when they were having a breather from the mauling they were administrating to England on a regular basis. Which is why he became a legend through rosy success starved Pommie glasses. In short: Why do we care? :finger:

Only had the desire to perform against Australia, even after which he was plastered 5-0 as captain in 2007. And his achievement in 3 world cups.....zip. Most characteristic was the one in 2007 when he got drunk and fell in the sea or something to that effect. Tells me all I need to know. He's as much a legend as our own prima donna, Sreesanth. And had he been in the present XI they would never be #1. He would get injured and while around, bring about that beery culture that has been the downfall of most Pom teams. They're holding to their ranking by a fingernail anyway, so. Flintoff averages the same as Kapil Dev with the bat. Kapil Dev's bowling average is 29.something and Flintoff's is 32.something. I am not saying he is better or even on the same level as Kapil Dev but his figures are decent. Also Zaheer Khan's bowling average is over 31 but that does not stop us rating him as a bowler. Flintoff's averages do not do his immense talent justice. At his best, he was a world class bowler. A fully fit Flintoff would walk into any current test or One Day side. Flintoff is unlucky that he was plagued by injuries throughout his career. It should also be noted that it was not uncommon for him to play through the pain barrier.

Most people rate Zaheer's performance after he got his ass into gear. He did well for us over a certain period of time. That doesn't make him a great bowler though. You're looking at a sub-25 avg to even get a mention tbh.

Not saying Flintoff is a great but the person i was debating with was mugging him off like he was on the same level as Luke Wright. At his best, Flintoff was a world class bowler and a very dangerous hitter with the bat. He struggled with injury throughout his career and i believe had he been able to stay fit he could have been an English all-time great.

That is typical arguement given when you are wrong and you know it,even if you look at stats Not many mordern day fast bowling allrounders have 30 average with both ball and bat ,they are a rare breed.Flintoff as a package was good.after the india tour in 2002 he transformed as a bowler and some of his spells in india were quickest i have seen on flat decks.His length let him down in terms of wickets.But he was a very good cricketer whom most teams would love to have.

Quite properly, Atherton has chosen to ignore it. And, most crassly of all, Flintoff timed his personal attack at a party at Sky TV - the very company where Atherton, quite rightly, is held in such high regard as an insightful, fair-minded and scrupulously independent commentator, not to mention his numerous writing awards.
