Suresh Raina and Test match promotion

Raina will be one player to benefit from the home tests. He will perform better than some stalwarts in the team - I have high hopes from him. Love his attitude!

As expected, he fails. He is not a test player (at least not right now unless he goes to FC cricket and scores tons of runs) irrespective of what Dhoni would like us to believe.

So he is out to scrub offie Jeeten Patel after looking a fish out of water against Graeme Swann. For all the short ball talk. There is nothing to justify this selection.

pathetic selection. yes he is a awesome team member, everyones best mate, keeps team spirit up, decent odi player, brilliant fielder. but no way on earth is he ever going to succeed in tests. mentally he is just not cut out for it. same as UV. hope this is his last ever test for us.

SK Raina has the will to succeed. That will make him a good test batsman. He may not have the best technique' date= then neither does Sehwag. He is a hard worker, and I will take him any day over super talented Rohits & going beyond the expiry date Laxmans.

Raina, if he can make is place, could double up as a good part time bowler with his slow off spin.

Thats underrating Raina's ODI credentials hugely. Agree with everything else in the post though.Hopefully this is his last test for us.All we are doing by selecting for the tests is destroying his confidence and denting his ODI form.

He might still play an occasional good knock in India but he's bound to fail every time he walks out to bat overseas. He has no future in the test squad. Let him play LOIs only.

3,0,20,3,3 against NZ in India. 4 dismissals by a spinner. Short ball and spin. :headshake:
Can't figure out why he struggles so much against spinners, especially offies :dontknow: Struggling against short pitched stuff I can understand but to struggle against the likes of Swann and Patel is unacceptable for an Indian player.

Badrinath in his place in the next match? :hmmm: Raina, if he can make is place, could double up as a good part time bowler with his slow off spin.
Raina should get the next game as well. Though I don't agree with Raina's selection ahead of Rahane but now we've made the call to play him let's give him this series and barring injury he should play in both the Tests. But in case Raina's dropped, which I don't agree with since dropping a match is not the way to go, I would prefer Rahane is played instead of Badri. One of the reasons I want Raina to play the next Test as well is that you can't just give a player one Test before kicking him out and also that it will be unfair on whoever is next up (hopefully Rahane) and if the new batsman fails in the next Test the selectors may just kick him out of the squad the next series.

He can't handle the turn. Probably that's why he doesn't has good FC records. Without ability to play spin, he will find it difficult to succeed even in subcontinent.

He did pretty well inhis debut innings in SL where he got a 100 on a turning pitch against SL spinners. I think the problem right now is more mental. Raina is putting too much pressure on himself to succeed and is focusing so much on not getting out instead of playing naturally and scoring. I have no doubt if it were an odi Raina woul dhave taken Patel to cleaners. Raina is playing the same way Yuvi played Hogg in Aus. He was expected to do well there and put so much pressure on himself that even Hogg made his bunny. I suspect something very similar in Raina's case.

Huh? That pitch was the baap of pattas with both teams scoring 600+ in the first innings. You sure it was a turning pitch?
