Ultimate_Game Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 bowling alongside Narine n Lee is FAR easier than bowling alongside our trundlers.see what he did with CSK to know what I mean. Chawla is a pathetic pick, doesnt make Balajis pick good. We aren't exactly spoilt for choice and TBH I can't see a better option than him.
vvvslaxman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 dunno for me he never looks like knowing wat hes doing.has good outswing I know, but u cant select him for just that. I dunno why Praveen is being ignored.can swing it BOTH ways.can bat a bit as well.has good ODI record in Lanka too.on all counts would hv been a better pick. Praveen has lost his sting drastically. Don't know what happened. He just runs in puts the ball nowadays. May be his wrists are not working as well as it used to. It just doesn't come out well for him. I am not saying Balaji should be selected only for outswinger. But that is his stock ball. He can bowl other deliveries too. Slow bouncer, quick bouncer that comes at you quicker than Ishant's bouncer. He can go wide of the crease and slant the ball into you. He definitely got few more tricks up his sleeve. He is quicker than praveen.
Lord Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 We aren't exactly spoilt for choice and TBH I can't see a better option than him. Praveen?Awana?
vvvslaxman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 We aren't exactly spoilt for choice and TBH I can't see a better option than him. Exactly.. He is far from perfect. But we don't have viable choices. We have to go back to the same old guys who have been indifferent. Balaji atleast got an excuse that he got a very serious injury. What about others like RP singh who just did not go the next level like Stuart Broad for England.
vvvslaxman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Praveen?Awana? Glad that Awana was not picked. He is far from a finished product. He just doesn't have a decent stock delivery or decent variation. He bowls 4 out of 6 balls short hoping to bounce the batsman out. But this won't work on all pitches. He will be whacked around.
GautiMaan Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Praveen?Awana? Awana is injured man.Pk in the last one year has faltered drastically(atleast in ODI's) I think Munaf is the only one who could've been picked ahead of Balaji
Ultimate_Game Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Praveen?Awana? Awana is injured and PK is hardly an automatic selection. But yeah if the ball is swinging around I would rather have PK.
Brainfade Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 There are not many videos of Balaji from international cricket Balaji Great Delivery to Shoaib Akhtar - YouTube Watch it for a controlled outswinger.. He dismissed Inzamam very similarly when he caught him plumb infront at Mohali. That happened in like 1947 :-)!

Praveen is okay.he usually struggles on flat decks n but is very good on helpful ones.SL ones r gonna be helpful early on methinks. about Balaji,he is negligibly quicker than PK.he has other tricks but he just doesnt seem reliable to me.would love to be proven wrong
vvvslaxman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 That happened in like 1947 :-)! Because he picked up injury after that. Most recent examples of his outswingers are from IPL which i deliberately didn't post. He hasn't lost his outswingers.
CG Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 For gods sake why do we have to go back to guys who are tried and tested failures .Bowlng in ipl is diff to bowling in world t20.In t20 you need pace on those flat picthes in srilanka ,its not low and slow nowadays he will play less as msd has never had faith in him but we will get hammered anyways .
ravishingravi Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Feel good for this guy. He was brilliant along with Irfan for a brief period. He had the most awful luck with injuries. He was quick 135-140 with a brilliant outswing.

Last time he played for India was in the series vs Pak in 2005 and he was terrific in that series. Not sure if you watched him bowl then. Lost his spot due to injuries and not non performance. Has fought with the injuries, performed in domestic cricket, in IPL and now is back for a t20 tournament. Well deserved.

Praveen has been hardly accurate recently, bowls 4 wides on both sides of the wickets, cannot bowl straight at 120K.

Needs to rediscover his prodigious swing which he would if he plays some FC matches.

Well deserved. He is 30 yrs old averages 40 in odis was selected for series against srilanka in 2009 got hammered in the only match he played. Also was injured in Ipl and has not played any cricket after that.He is going to be a failure it could have been so much better to give awana a chance.
Needforspeed Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 He had the best economy rate among all Indian bowlers and one of the best in the tournament in the last IPL. If IPL criteria counts for T20 selection, he definitely deserves to be in the squad...and the pitches in SL are similar to the ones for KKR in the Eden Gardens.

Who is himself injured (got injured in the A tour to WI)!
