All this refers to the Test format. In ODIs, Donald, at all stages of his career, was one of the very best bowlers around.
Not taking anything away from Donald, but most of the good test bowlers were good in ODIs also. Wasim, Waqar, Donald etc. I doubt that we had likes of Hafeez and Tsotsobe among top ODI bowlers in 90s. These days ODI bowling has diluted a lot. Anyone can get thrashed consistently in shorter format these days.

Batting has been MUCH easier in the 2000s. There was an article in Cricinfo that listed out the batting stats for the 90s and the 2000s. Steyn is the better bowler' date= because Donald became a lesser bowler when he started bowling in the 130s instead of the 140s and 150s. Steyn in this tour has bowled in the high 130s mostly but has still been very effective. His SR is the one factor that sets him apart from everyone. All this refers to the Test format. :hysterical: As i mentioned donald had lost many of years as sa was banned ,wait till steyn reaches 32 you will the drop its just natural.

anderson, zack both average over 30 :p there are probably 3-4 bowlers today who are just averaging under 30 and no one is near steyn :P
Shows quality more than anything.

+1. It's not that bowlers haven't been able to average 25 for a year or two. Zak, Anderson both had good averages for 15-20 matches. It's that they have remained mediocre for most of their career and while best players maintain their class throughout their career. That's why they average 30+.

Check out bowling SR @ tests.
steyn has 41.somethin,AD has 47..its a difference all right, but not too muc,AD average is slightly better than steyn but would consider it same..but fact is AD was so much better in odis

Not a day used to pass in my childhood and teenage days without me dreaming myself to be the greatest allrounder on earth.. and invariably that chap had the bowling action of none other than the white lightning. However then came steyn

It is because he is so much above his peers in test cricket. He is Don Bradman of fast bowling in this era. Anyone would love to have his ODI record and he is getting better in ODIs as he is playing them more. ODIs 63 62 3071 2605 91 5/50 5/50 28.62 5.08 33.7 3 1 0

i didnt say, steyn is a bad odi bowler,he is one of the best odi bowlers right now,but AD was much superior in odis

^ Not a fair comparisons due to pitches these days.
ODI pitches remain flat irrespective of the host country these days. Batsman can hope to smash any bowler on these pitches and bowlers rarely look like dominating batsmen.

Yup - exactly my point.
