Harbhajan and agarkar were never as solid batsmen. Pathan was never as good a bowler. He averaged 50 in India. Harbhajan already have 400 test wickets. I will be happy to have that many wickets for any bowler. Ashwin is such good and focussed player. He can easily bat at 6 and average 45 for India in tests. Though right now he is good at 8. It gives depth to our batting. But we can play five bowlers at home and let ashwin bat at 6 or 7 if we want to play Bhajji as fifth bowler.

somehow we should provide more opportunities to ashwin to bat more. Someone of his talent could do well in the top order.

No. He should continue to bat at #8, no matter how good he is/becomes. Positions 1-7 are for specialist batsmen and the wicket keeper.

Its really pointless for India to go in with 5 bowlers, we should back our batting which delivers more often than our bowling ever does. We were 80/4 in this test, and it was because of 7th specialist batsman that we managed to reach close to NZ score.

He can easily average 40+. He didnt look fussed in Australia where most our batsmen looked at sea.

He should bat at no. 8 and concentrate on his bowling. Also no point playing 5 batsmen in India and then introducing sixth one when we travel who'll be useless without getting any experience in India.

Ashwin seeing off the new ball is the big plus. And today was not the first time he had to do this. Now only if the numbers 9, 10 and 11 can just guts it out, just a little like Yadav. So many times Dhoni has been made to look amateurish with the new ball change.
