Ashwin and Raina as batsmen

He can easily average 40+. He didnt look fussed in Australia where most our batsmen looked at sea.
Seriously lol 40+? Even the likes of Ganguly just about managed to average 40+ Also just checked the only place he scored most of his runs in Aus were @ Sydney. Sure he did better than our batsman but nothing to be excited about. He'll be a decent no.8 and I still think he'll avg 25-30 which is decent for a no.8. His avg is inflated because 4 of his 7 tests were in India against the likes of WI and NZ. And lol just because he plays shots like VVS, he wont average 45+ :giggle:

If he plays at No.8 and averages 35+, it will be almost equivalent to a 45 average.

He used to be a opener before becoming a bowler. Right ow he is under no pressure to score runs freely. On e you start expecting from him by batting him at 7 he could start failing. I like his current role,

Lets see. 45 was a bit OTT. He has all the talent a batsman needs to have and he bats with batsman mentality. You are saying his average is inflated because he played against WI and NZ then why other top order couldnt inflate those averages. He must be doing some thing right for that.

AFAIK Pathan got better with his batting and his bowling got worse

He is a full-fledged all rounder without any doubt. If Ishant comes into the side after Zak, we will have a really good tail because Ishant can hang out in the middle.

Pathan didnt fail because of batting but because of bowling.

Well yes he did play some amazing innings but far few in between. Once he plays 25-30 tests we'll get a fair idea where his test avg is heading.

Probably, not sure with stats but yeah he did lose his way. We cant afford to do that with Ashwin.

He bats at 8 so he does not get enough chance to bat long like in first and today.

You should be happy if he levels out and averages 25-30 over time. He can play a good role and get runs through boundaries by shepherding the incompetent tail. Naturally, bowling is the primary concern

if only jaddu and chawla had fired for dhoni, we would have had variety and batsmen averaging 30 at 7,8,9 at home. they still young though and in year or two maybe this will happen.

The way our top order plays right now we need a strong tail and yeah Ashwin is better than Raina. Raina should not be there in the test team in the first place.
