maniac Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 What would you think is the best match ever played across each format i.e T20,ODI and Test cricket..... ODI Starting with ODI's as it probably has the easiest pick-Australia vs S.Africa WC 1999 SF.....This game had everything 2 evenly matched sides....2 great thinking captains...Drama,Twists....Probably the greatest match I ever saw live http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/65233.html For some weird reason it feels like Aus won this match but let us not forget that this match deserved to be a tie and with all due respect to Pakistan....the team that won this game deservedly won the Cup. There are so many great ODI games like the 400+ Aus-SA game,Ind-Pak Miandad 6 match(As much as I hate to say it as an Indian...it was probably nerve-wracking and heart-breaking but the impact the game had cannot be denied),Ind vs Pak in Karachi ODI,Ind vs WI perth in a low-scoring thriller, but nothing beats the game above and I rank this as the best ODI game ever Test Matches As an Indian I am tempted to put the Kolkata Test of 2001 but eventhough I rank it as one of the greatest comebacks in cricket....I wouldn't want to rank that as the greatest test match ever.....This might be weird but when I was a kid I read this article/story in Tinkle about the Aus vs WI tied test in Brisbane and I have come to beleive that this is the greatest test ever played and I have never watched the footage of this game,so it will be great if any of you can post it http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/62888.html There have been other games like Ind vs Aus Tied test in Chennai,I just don't want to pick only tied games and classify them as great by default but some of the matches in Ashes 2005 were epic but by no means the greatest. T20 Love it or hate it....We cannot deny that this format has it's moments when it can be super-exciting.....no matter how many 'close' games we have in the IPL....nothing can beat some of the games at the international level.... Please fill me up if I am forgetting any games but some of the best games I have seen in this format are the tied Ind vs Pak game in the league stage of WT20 2007,Aus vs Pak 2010 SF-Can't deny that was epic-Even Pak fans have to agree with me on this one and probably so many other lost in the IPL shuffle http://www.espncricinfo.com/twenty20wc/engine/current/match/287879.html but the greatest T20 game ever has to be the T20 Wc 2007 Final....As I have said before this was the game that gave birth to the T20 phenomenon. just the twists,emotion,Clear-winner till the last ball, the environment,Traditional rivals and so many other factors made this probably the greatest T20 game ever.
Clarke Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Test: hard to judge since i haven't seen/read about a majority of the games. ODIs: Agree, 99 WC semi Aus vs SA. T20: I would say this one, watched it live- http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/423788.html
Trichromatic Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Test: hard to judge since i haven't seen/read about a majority of the games. ODIs: Agree, 99 WC semi Aus vs SA. T20: I would say this one, watched it live- http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/423788.html 99 WC SF had everything. Top quality pace bowling, top quality spin bowling, good slow batting, hitting, climax, run-out. Perfect match for a movie.
vayuu1 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Test: hard to judge since i haven't seen/read about a majority of the games. ODIs: Agree, 99 WC semi Aus vs SA. T20: I would say this one, watched it live- http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/423788.html I disgree with the t20 list it has to be 2007 encounters with Pakistan it had every thing India struggling early on,then middle order and lower order providing stability and giving us respectable total then pak losing wickets only to be rescued by misbah giving them false hope and then brain farting at the right time and giving India two historic moments ,not to forget the match losing knock in mohali.like green ghetto says marde junoon marde haq WTF misbah ul haq
Crookbond Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Test Match Australia vs West Indies 4th Test Match Adelaide - WI won by 1 run http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/63593.html EzIbT7SLDVA iQoXcVSvt7w ODI South Africa vs Australia 5th ODI Wanderers - SA won by 1 wicket with 1 ball remaining http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/238200.html ovv6LhF-_KM T20 India vs Pakistan T20 WC 2007 Final - India won by 5 runs http://www.espncricinfo.com/twenty20wc/engine/current/match/287879.html l_srHUgQ3yU&feature=relmfu QR3H94YvDL4&feature=related

namasteji1 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 ^^ It was Donald's foolishness , he was watching the ball and should have run straight away, Klusner did the right thing by running straight away and it was an easy single had Donald run without looking back.
Sarkar Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Test 2001 Kolkata India vs Aus Odi 2002 Natwest Final India vs England T20 India vs Pakistan t20 Final 2007

Another 3 balls were remaining.
Sidhoni Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 ODIs - 99 WC SF That match in 06 when SA chased 435.
maniac Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Could be argued the other way - Klusener should not have attempted a single since one strike would have won the game. Another 3 balls were remaining. Couldn't agree more...1 run from 3 balls with Klusner timing the ball like he was...should have had a talk with Donald...If he failed to connect the next 2 balls maybe then, they could have run for everything Donald was the senior player but Klusner was the main batsman and it should have been his call
Cricket Tragic Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Not to forget that Duck almost got run out before that and was lucky.
Number Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/engine/match/65251.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63762.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/291356.html
Sidhoni Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 One of the gr8st test match has to be Kolkata Test in 2001 where Lax and Dravid put on a marathon p'ship and we won after following on.
Tridibans_16 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Could be argued the other way - Klusener should not have attempted a single since one strike would have won the game. Another 3 balls were remaining. Klusener was hitting the ball so well that he was better off trying to get past the infield than to run a risky single. In fact, just before that dismissal, Donald was almost run out.
SLICKR392 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 2001 Eden Test. - 2010 Mohali Test 99' WC Aus-SA SF. Ind-Pak '07 WT20 group match.
