Is MS Dhoni's T20 time up?

He has conclusively proved he has no gears for T20 games. He neither rotates strike nor goes for shots soon enough. He is just stuck. He definitely is a liability for INdia in this format as a player. With Yuvraj not in any sort of match practice or fitness we are already 2 players down.
It's sad actually. MSD should take a quick vacation for a 'Gangasnan' to get rid of this black magic against him. Those helicopter shots are realy needed to execute now to save India, unless he is saving them for clt20.

He better leave Test captaincy to Kohli asap before this negetive energy against him starts effecting longer matches at home as well. Moreover he needs to be burdain free to concentrate more on clt20 to have CSK something this year.
Please leave Kohli for now. He is still just 23. I am sure he is the next Indian captain but not now. He needs to play without the pressure of captaining India.

Only in-form player in India. Certainly can't take risk with him.

Go ahead. Tell us who those " many" are and how " well " have they done.

Smith,Fleming,Kapil Dev.even Pataudi was considered very good.I'm not saying its the norm.most players dont even play intl. cricket at that age.but its not as bad specially since Kohli has 3 years of intl. cricket experience behind him

select the best team first then pick the captain from the team.
I agree with vvs. Select the best team. Pick the best captain from the team. Play the matches to best of your ability and score more runs than your opposition and voilà: your team just won yet another world cup. Simple, isn't it?

Enough with hyperbole. It wasn't a Laxman-Ishant partnership where the opposition was trying to get the main batsman out and neither did Tendulkar outscore Mongia by some huge distance. In fact in their partnership of 136 runs, 52 were scored by Mongia and around 70 by Tendulkar. How is that doing all the scoring? I consider that innings by Tendulkar as one of the best ever in test cricket - it was one of the best bowling attacks, difficult pitch, and the score was 80/5 chasing 275. As I said, Faisalabad was the baap of all pattas. You'll struggle hard to find flatter pitches than that and the bowling attack barring Akhtar was ordinary. The only thing going for Dhoni was the match situation, which was still much much better than the situation Mongia made his runs in.
I fundamentally disagree with the premise that Mongia faced the same set of challenges as Sachin did, during their p'ship in 99 against Pakistan. Yes, he faced the same set of bowlers on the same pitch facing the same match situation as Sachin did, but that does not mean the magnitude of his obstacle facing was even in the same ball plane As Sachin's. Its one thing to be a side-kick to the main protagonist like Mongia was during 99, but an entirely different thing to be the main protagonist himself, like Dhoni was in 2005. Given that, and the fact that Dhoni scored nearly thrice as much runs as Mongia did and unlike Mongia, stayed till the end to finish the job, it is easy for me to conclude which was the better innings.
Anyhow, where did I say Mongia is a better test batsman than Dhoni?
You may not have said those very those very words, but to me, the implication of the general tone of your argument - Constantly bigging up mediocre Mongia's fluke innings' like they were gift from heaven and deriding MSD las a toothless FTB - leads me to that conclusion. Having said that, I dont think I am delusional enough to call Dhoni as a world-class test match batsmen at the moment. I thought he had a fantastic start to his test career. If anything, you could literally split his batting career into symmetrical halves - From 2005 to 2008 and then 2009 to 2011. In the summer of 2008, when we in the cusp of the no.1 ranking, I dont think anybody would have called MSD as an FTB. Of course, his batting has degraded alarmingly in recent times, but that is an entirely different debate altogether. P.S; Care to explain your logic behind rating Suresh Raina (who played a combined 60 deliveries in all of WC '11) ahead of MSD in the list of players most crucial to WC win?

I'm afraid - I don't think we have 16 good enough players for T20Is.
Any set of 16 players, other than those presently in the squad, will not do any worse than what the current team has achieved in the last 4 years in T20Is.

1.Dhoni was the worst batsman in indias tour of australia 2008,He had a good english tour but was exposed in australia in 2008.Yes everybody had high hopes from dhoni but he went downhill and gives the same excuse when he fails that he does not have atechnique instead of trying to improve it. 2.Dhoni had an ordinary world cup till the final both as a captain and batsman.Raina did win us the game agianst australia which we were on brink of losing and raina did not play in all games i think.
