These selectors were okay, India did get to No.1 and win world cup... I liked how they kept faith in senior players. Like there was a period people were questioning Dravid's selection and he eventually delivered. Much better than constantly changing team and trying chit players (Badri, Mukund types) who only do well in Ranji. When the youngsters were ready for Internationals they were given good runs and ones like Kohli stepped up. Also other selectors would have dropped somelike Yuvi for World Cup, these guys kept faith...

The support for Srikkanth is exactly the reason why corruption, nepotism, and regionalism can never be weeded out of the Indian society. The guy selected his good for nothing son to represent India A FFS and the reason he gave was that he did not know which format they were selecting the team for. As if his son is good for any format! The guy can't even make the TN team on a regular basis. In any self respecting organization he would have been fired, but in India we have people singing praises of a nepotistic, corrupt moron.

guys its understandable that most indians do not like the fact that csk which represents chennai does well in IPL. But dont turn on your own like Dhoni and Raina because they play for chennai franchise, they dont mean to play its just that they were bought by CSK. No the biggest mistakes Srikkanth committed were... 1. Selecting his good for nothing son for India A squad for a format which Srikkanth didn't even know about. 2. No transition plan at all even though half of our team was approaching retirement. We were lucky we had players like Dravid & Laxman who bowed out themselves else we would have been royally screwed. 3. Allowing certain players to pick and choose intl matches as if they own the team and Srikkanth not just condoning it but actually acting like a teenage cheerleader for the said player. 4. Not making even one tough call. he simply selcted the squad most of which selected itself for most of his tenure. I mean putting the names - Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman, Dhoni, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Ishant, Raina etc. - on a team sheet is not exactly rocket science. When he had to make a tough call or make a brave decision like playing Rohit or Rahane in Tests he failed big time. Nothing to do with him being Tamil and he would have been criticised, and fairly I must say, based on such a track record.

Yup Amarnath is a no-non sense guy who would pander to others. Unfortunate if he doesn't get into the next selection panel else the panel will reduce to a bunch of yes-men.

Rahul Dravid' date= Kumble & Ganguly would be my 3 man panel with no "chief selector" and all three having equal say in selection. All three men have the balls to make a tough call and have enough integrity to not be partial to certain players or regions. I would do away with the 5 man selection panel as 5 people leads to politics and compromise. 3 people is the way to go.

Sorry no Ganguly or some CSKite this time. Don't want this regional BS like it has been happening in the past. Ganguly is good but he is a bit to regional i.e. with Bangla pride in my liking. He seems to recommend everybody from Saha to Dinda to Debabrata Das in all his articles on websites and newspapers. Do not want a regional angle to it. Kumble also support a lot of Kannada guys. Not saying that supporting is bad but then regional instinct often takes over national instinct. So, need somebody like Dravid who is unbiased as always and gives importance to the nation and quality of cricket over everything else. Dravid, Arun Lal and Amarnath would be good choices IMO. However, Dravid would probably not get a chance as he is still an active player at least in IPL. Kapil has also returned to BCCI fold. So, Kapil, Arun Lal and Amarnath might be good choices too. Sunny Gavaskar might also be an option. At least, some sensible heads in the lot. Kapil can contribute a lot to Indian cricket in terms of planning and should be given a good role.

New Delhi: There is a possibility that the entire five-member national senior selection committee will bear a completely new look when the BCCI annual general body meeting is held this month. If that happens, it would be a rare occurrence. While four of the present selectors have completed their four-year tenures, the fifth one could also possibly change, thus making it a completely new panel. And if that actually transpires, the committee will have a completely new approach towards picking players for national duty. K Srikkanth, the current chairman from south zone, CR Venkataraman (east), Surendra Bhave (west), and Narendra Hirwani (central) have completed their tenures and it is learnt that the north zone representative Mohinder Amarnath might also be replaced, though nothing is certain as of now. Obviously, no one is ready to go on record on the Amarnath issue as of now. When asked, Srinivasan only praised the gutsy batsman who took on some of the greatest fast bowlers, particularly from the West Indies and Pakistan in the 1970s and 1980s, without flinching. The two names currently doing the rounds are that of Chetan Chauhan, a former opening partner of Sunil Gavaskar, and Vikram Rathour, also a former Test opener who played six Tests in 1996-97. Chauhan has served for two years on the senior selection panel, from 1987 to 1989, and is currently chairman of DelhiÃÔ senior selection committee. It was speculated last year, at the time of the constitution of the selection panels in September, that when Srikkanth would retire in September 2012, Amarnath, now 61, by virtue of being the ÅÔeniormost selector would graduate to become the chairman. However, reportedly some differences cropped up between Srikkanth and Amarnath, members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, over the issue of captaincy. So, the equation might just change when the panels are constituted at the BCCI AGM. Just in case Amarnath is replaced, there will be a new chairman too, assuming both Chauhan and Roger Binny, who is tipped to replace Srikkanth from south zone, are inducted into the panel. In the other zones, the issues are not so complicated. In east, former Test wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta is supposedly the leading candidate to replace CR Venkataraman. In west zone, former Test speedster Abey Kuruvilla, who is currently serving his fourth successive year as chairman of the junior selection committee, is said to be a hot favourite to replace Surendera Bhave. The largest number of prospective candidates is from central, the zone to which BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale and IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla belong. Amay Khurasia, Shashikant Khandekar, Gyanendra Pandey and Rahul Sapru are among the names being mentioned
