Cricket Board president N Srinivasan said on Thursday there was increasing interest among former players to become national selectors after it has become a paid job while maintaining there was no intrigue in the lead-up to the nomination of the new panel here. ŵhere is no intrigue, but a lot of interest (from former cricketers) as it has become a paid job. There is interest from many cricketers. We try to pick as good a selection commitee as we could, said Srinivasan after the BCCI appointed a new-look senior selection panel headed by Sandeep Patil here at its 83rd AGM. He was asked why the step of excluding someone like Amarnath from the new panel was taken while he had three years left in his term. He said, Ǹe wanted a person of sufficient stature, a tall man as chairman. No one can question Sandeep PatilÃÔ credentials. The issue is not about credentials of a person, just that BCCI want a new face. The five selectors are chosen for a maximum four-year term and elected annually. I cannot go into the reason (behind Mohinder AmarnathÃÔ exclusion) and donÃÕ want it to go into a public debate. Appointing selectors is a decision of the BCCI, he was quoted as saying in The Hindu. Interestingly, The Indian Express says that an incident during IndiaÃÔ tour Down Under in 2011-12 may have been instrumental in AmarnathÃÔ contract not being extended. Amarnath had presented a bat belonging to his father, Lala Amarnath, to Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, reportedly telling him that the memorabilia would be treasured more by CA than by BCCI, says the IE report. The report adds that the incident triggered the rift between Amarnath and the BCCI, which is also in the process of setting up a cricket museum. Srinivasan does not want to debate on AmarnathÃÔ exclusion. According to sources in West Zone, the name of Karsan Ghavri too was forwarded by a few associations, before Patil was nominated from the Zone. Likewise, quite a few other former cricketers were touted as candidates from some other zones before the Board zeroed in on its choice. The senior panel selectors annual take home packet was also raised from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 60 lakh while that of the junior panel, to be headed by former India stumper Chandrakant Pandit, was doubled to Rs 40 lakh.

I can see why Amarnath gifted the bat to CA. Countries like Australia, NZ, England have proper infrastructure and inclination to care for sports memorabilia. And here BCCI, the richest cricketing board, is moving at a snail's pace in establishing a museum. At least Amarnath did not say this time, that BCCI are a bunch of jokers...may be he did!

"It would have been an honour for North Zone and Mohinder was suppose to become the chairman of selectors but got the boot as some people had personal interests," Bedi stated during a media interaction organised by Kirti Azad at the Constitution Club on Friday. "In BCCI one chap is omnipresent and no one can challenge him. I tell you that is not a good sign," Bedi said, in an apparent reference to Srinivisan though he did not take his name.

NEW DELHI: Mohinder Amarnath's stint as a national cricket selector is in trouble. The former India batsman is the North Zone selector, charged with identifying talent in this region, but stays in Mumbai and Goa. As a result, according to sources in the board, some North Zone state associations are not happy that Amarnath doesn't spend enough time in the zone he represents in the selection panel. There is strong indication that he may not continue as the North Zone selector September onwards. He may continue as a selector from some other zone. Ironically, Amarnath has played most of his domestic cricket for Delhi. "This is a serious issue with North Zone states and we are looking into it and if need be, we are going to make appropriate changes. But you cannot blame the selector as well because he does not stay in north India," a top BCCI official told TOI on Tuesday. Attempts to reach Amarnath were unsuccessful. Come September when the board will hold its AGM, there will be other changes in the selection panel. The current committee - headed by Kris Srikkanth, will be changed after being in place for four years. As per the rules, the selectors can remain in their post for three years. But after India won the 2011 World Cup, the board decided to give one-year extension to current selectors. Only Amarnath joined the panel as a replacement for North Zone selector Yashpal Sharma. It was widely believed at that time that Amarnath would become chairman of the committee once Srikkanth demits the position this year since he has wide international experience and is a well respected man in the fraternity. However, with North Zone associations protesting, his path has been somewhat queered. "He is hardly here in Delhi, the state he represents in the panel," a Delhi & District Cricket Association ( DDCA) official complained. It was also reliably learnt that the board may scrap the practice of selectors traveling with the Indian team. "Once you have selected the team, what is the point of travelling with the team?" the official asked, adding, "After picking the Indian team, they should be concentrating on other talented players who are future prospects for the country."

Heck someone like Badri who scored tons of runs in domestic cricket couldn't more than 3 inns to prove his worth yet someone like Yuvi was picked test after test w/o any performance. Some bias.

:facepalm: Vijay was dropped after just a single poor series in WI which was the first full series he played.How was that bias?In the series before he was dropped (excluding the single test in Durban) which is Aus tour in Indi) he scored a high quality century under extreme pressure.After that century against Aus he just played 4 more tests.Just compare that with the amount of failures someone like Ishant or Gambhir or Rohit has had. Admittedly he was found out in tough conditions but to say he selection was bias is plain ignorance considering his performance just 2 test before.Or are u saying CSK players shouldnt be selected even if they score a century?
