The irony is that Gandhi was a Karm Yogi and we celebrate his birthday by taking a leave and stopping all work. What do we do by taking a break? We don't really remember him or study his teachings - we just make merry.

It must have been compounded by the fact that the Mahatma showed much more skin than Jayanthi or any other actress from the South.

I have to wonder if his legacy would have been different had it not been for Internet. Somehow the intense views that you talk about Ravish, are also those that have been raised in past 20 years or so. Have to wonder how much of this was down to the bits and bytes flowing through fibre optics etc...

There is a lot of weird things about him that were revealed by him. Agreed that he had to test his celibacy , but to subject innocent girls who were his followers is very selfish. Imagine what they would have gone through? Agreed, the man was not above faults. For example his lack of support to likes of Azaad, Bhagat Singh and later on Subhas Bose. Also perhaps not the best Father. That said, he was still a man ahead of most of greats of our time.
Desi Cartman Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 My parents always addressed leaders like Gandhi and Shastri with a jee at the end and they still do, I grew up knowing that these leaders should be respected but when I was a little older and started seeing how people blamed Gandhi for letting muslims stay in India, favor Muslims, steal the limelight from freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, not protect Bhagat singh when he could have etc, it became difficult to form an opinion. Now I understand a little bit more, at the end of the day no one is perfect but one should respect the sacrifices one makes for the greater good of the society and Im sure he made some mistakes like everybody does but he made an effort and brought a huge change, but Im not sure if he really was mahatma

We love to judge people, don't we? We love to find faults in great men, in legends that we owe deeply. Since we got freedom free of cost since birth, we like to say how the freedom fighting should have been done differently. That makes us hypocrites.
