Kirstin had pretty much the same team :cantstop: . .
Kirsten had the same players but all of them were in form. A lineup of Sehwag, Gauti, RD, SRT and VVS when 3-4 of them are on song is a huge asset to the side. Not sure if it was Fletcher's bad luck but a majority of this lineup went out of form at the same time.

India never had any decent openers in the 90s. Not even in the class of out of form Viru, Gauti. This is an excuse even the worst coach in the world can use and get away. During the most of the losses Indian team looked absolutely deflated whether it was batting or bowling or fielding without any semblance of motivation. If we think he is a brilliant coach with bad luck , i would rather have a dumb coach with good luck. This guy was a disaster waiting to happen from the get go. India might have been on the decline. This guy just accelerated the slide.

How is it Fletcher's fault if Zak gets injured in the first session of a test match? How is it Fletcher's fault if Raina and Yuvraj **** at test ciricket? How is it Flecther's fault if Vinay Kumar is selected for test cricket and he had to play 4 seamers on one of the fastest tracks in the world? There are many more such questions....Is he worthless yes,but you put a guy like Bob Woolmer who is considered to be G O A T coach and nothing would have changed.

India needed a coach to take us to the next level . If not next level a coach who could maintain us in the same position. Alas we have been having a free fall since this bozo took over. Only sorry excuse i hear is form of players. You don't think other coach in Indian history did not have players in bad form? From strategy, team selection, preparation down to motivating players... coach has so much role to play. For some bizzarre reasons some of us give benefit of doubt to this clown. Either we blame the BCCi or players or their form...He is getting total immunity for no reason. SUre poor players are accountable. much like poor players deserve the axe poor coach should also deserve the axe. We cannot say coach is poor because of poor players and give a free pass for one more term.

It seems like you know more than Dravid does about the current functioning of the team - he has clearly hinted that neither Kirsten nor Fletcher were involved in team selection. Finally, Rahul Dravid feels that Fletcher has much to offer in terms of tactics/strategy. On pedigree, I will take his word than anyone here on the forum. Perspective is funny - Fletcher is not held accountable because he does not contribute or have much say into the setup. Since that is the case, why should he be held accountable? Much like Kirsten was showered more praise than necessary Fletcher is being blamed more than necessary. You have to tread that fine path and attribute blame as required. Currently, it is going overboard. None of us are giving him the benefit of the doubt - he needs to go & he will once his contract is done. He has earned enough pedigree to go through the 2-year contract. Just that, the percentage of vitriol you are throwing at Fletcher is disproportionate to what he should be receiving. You have absolute right to blame him for preparation or failed approach to the game. Anything beyond that is dream world.

A Coach can never score runs for you or take wickets. Its the players who has to perform. Having said that a coach has his job to do as well. A lot of backroom work is dependant upon the coach. Motivating the playes , tactics, setting goals etc. I doubt if Fletches has so far done his duties in this respect like Gary Kirsten used to do.

he also said Dhoni is the right person to take India forward. I don't think he cannot stop being nice. Fletcher said "If Dravid can't score runs chasing the total nobody can" after India's botched attempt at chasing a managable total in Windies. They would complement each other. It is frankly irrelevant as the results speak louder than the opinions and hypothesis.

The board is to blame first, they seem to have scant idea about cricket, its all politics. This oaf Srinivasan needs to be fired before anyone else, but it wont happen, obviously. India has several older under-performing players, maybe also unwilling to work as hard as they used to, if they ever worked hard in the first place (Sehwag obv.). Not much a coach can do. Raina and Yuvraj are wastes of space in tests, what was Fletcher to do with them? They obviously are not test material. and then he gets handed Chawla out of the blue??? The selectors and board have to be held accountable, and the awful players.

Fletcher is past it, was past it when the idiots at the BCCI appointed him. Remember this is the same coach who got whitewashed 5-0 with Eng in Aus. The same coach who Jarrod Kimber said was in every way THE WORST coach for India bearing in mind that a transition needed to take place. People in Eng were dumbfounded when Fletcher was appointed as he had been sitting on his ass for TWO years doing nothing. If he was that good somebody else would have hired him. Its just yesterdays garbage being recycled in the pathetic hope it will work, much like the current team.

With transition about to take place India needed a coach who needed to be much more dynamic. Much like they selected bad players, they selected bad coach as well.

Read the article once again on his views about Dhoni - it was a mischievous headline from Cricinfo to draw some naive clicks. Let me reproduce the relevant transcript of the interview
There was a lot of talk about Dhoni in the build-up to this Test match and even on the morning of the fourth day, the tactic clearly was questionable when India batted out some 13 overs just to score 29 runs. Do you think he is still the right man to take India forward from here on? That's the thing about captaincy, you can look at a lot of tactics and question them, and we all did on that particular day. You get some right and you get some wrong as a captain. You can't pick and choose and take out slices and say, "look, this was wrong and this was right," in captaincy because as a captain, you will make mistakes. In the course of a Test match, you'll get a few thing right, a few things wrong. At the moment I don't really see a viable alternative. I really think Dhoni can be the man to take India forward if he has the energy, passion and the enjoyment to do it. That's again the key. It's really going to come down to a lot of these players actually sitting back themselves, once the emotion has gone back, and calmly reassessing where they're at, and their roads to the future and the joy and enthusiasm they have to take Indian cricket forward. If Dhoni has it, I believe he is the right man to do it but that's really up to him to decide.
There is a big qualifier which Dravid added which I have highlighted - those three words encompass kilobytes of text posted on this forum. Dravid has just been concise in his expression - as one would expect. Your results theory is flawed. In the current setup, Fletcher has certain responsibilities and you can make a check list of it - 1. Ensure environment in dressing room 2. Suggest tactics and strategies 3. Motivate players 4. Point out technical deficiencies and so on ... Apart from 3, he seems to be doing his job alright. Like I said earlier, it is not that he should be left totally free but you need to allow him his space and ask him to complete his term before you reassess. On the other hand, people on this forum call for heads after just 1 series or a couple of bad decisions. In case of Fletcher, it has been an extended lean run but the kind of words which some posters are using against him and the blame assigned to Fletcher is way beyond what he should be copping up IMO.

Lol at blaming him for not being able to stop Dravid getting bowled' date=' damn Fletcher has no fountain of youth to restore Dravids eye sight and hand eye coordination to what it used to be.[/quote'] LOL, this is EXACTLY what i have tried to tell the imbeciles on this forum... fletcher cannot reverse the aging process. what the hell do you expect him to do with aging players? whatever is happening to india right now would have happened under any other coach. players get old, they don't maintain their form forever. selectors need to plan for the future and the coach needs to have some kind of input here. unfortunately in india, the coach isn't part of the selection process and has no role other than putting out the cones for practice every morning.

I think India needs an Indian to be at the helm of things with the test team. Dada, if interested could be a good choice. His aggressive and never-die attitude alone would do wonders than this samosa-tea gulping mentality. Moreover, Ganguly has been part of the setup till about 2008, so he would be more familiar with the members of the team, except perhaps a few new young faces.
