PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - Taliban gunmen in Pakistan shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday a 14-year-old schoolgirl who rose to fame for speaking out against the militants, authorities said. Malala Yousufzai was shot in the head and neck when gunmen fired on her school bus in the Swat valley, northwest of the capital, Islamabad. Two other girls were also wounded, police said. Yousufzai became famous for speaking out against the Pakistani Taliban at a time when even the government seemed to be appeasing the hardline Islamists

She was pro-West, she was speaking against Taliban and she was calling President Obama her idol, Ehsan said by telephone from an undisclosed location. Hailing from Mingora, the 14-year-old Yousufzai struggled for restoring peace in Swat and education for girls in the region for which she was awarded the National Peace Award by former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. Sums-up their mentality and blatantly expose their 'culture' and 'system' they want to impose... Her remarkable story made the whole nation proud last year when she won Peace award but today terrible terrible news this for whole nation... She not yet out of danger :(( May Allah bless and save her life...

Its so unfortunate when I hear many Pakistanis (especially the less educated ones) talk in favor of Taliban. I hope this incident changes the opinion among some of them atleast.

The only difference is that those killed on the roadside in the past were Shias. For years, Taliban and their sympathizers have stopped buses along the Tal-Parachinar Road and removed Shia passengers to either murder or kidnap them for ransom. Recently, Taliban and their sympathisers have executed several dozen Shias in Quetta and Gilgit-Baltistan region after removing them from buses. Why is that the State and the society have largely remained silent on the wanton murder of the Shias and other religious minorities in Pakistan. Why is that Imran Khan, Jamat-i-Islami or other religious outfits in Pakistan have never embarked on a long march for the plight of Shias and other victims of sectarian violence. I would argue that had the State and the society acted with resolve against sectarian violence in the past, the extremists would not have felt so invincible as to target an unarmed 14-year old girl in broad daylight. Scary sight. These are the times, I feel partition was a good idea, whatever happened , it did for the best. Iss jhamele se hum tho bachgaye!
