Sachinism Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Retirement? Selectors need to step in and take him out of the test side. Can't place all the blame on his shoulders for a non-performing side. But he's done himself no favours by being clueless on the field. Very reactive, sitting back waiting for things to happen, on top of that he is useless with the bat. He can't even go on past achievements in test cricket, there aren't any.
asterix Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 It really depends on 2 questions. 1. Are there any keeper presently who is better than Dhoni in terms of batting? 2. Are we gonna have some patience with his replacement (eg. Player X)? Suppose Dhoni is replaced by this player X, and this player X does even poorly. Are we going to resort back to Dhoni? Basically, we have got to remember that a change can make it even more worse and thus it ultimately depends on the patience. If the replacement player does poorly, atleast he'll not be the captain taking important decisions or selecting the team. There are so many benefits of removing Dhoni... Atleast the new players will help build the team for future, even if perform poorly, and not being stubborn. Also there are better wicket keeper batsmen than Dhoni for the Test team. How would you know unless Dhoni plays in Ranji or Ranji players play test cricket?

Firstly, we need to find wicket keepers who are better test batsman than Dhoni. Secondly, we need to pursue with that player and have patience. Judging how pathetic many Indian supporters are, I fail to see how the replacement will get any patience. We need competition not just replacement. And one more point in terms of captaincy, remember the longer the format, the less importance for the role of the captain.

Dinesh Karthik ,Uday Kaul.In test cricket captaincy plays major role .
someone Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Dinesh Karthik .In test cricket captaincy plays major role . Dinesh Karthik is an option but he has got to prove it in the domestics or basically any opportunities he is given which he has failed recently. And really, the importance of captaincy is relatively smaller in tests than ODIs and T20s.

Dhoni is not worth his place in test team and you want somebody to compete him? Yeah right, captain has no role? Which world are you living? Didn't you followed the pitch and pitch curator issues? Captain lead from the front in longer format and not just being a passenger or focussing most t the time on pitch conditions...
asterix Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Dhoni has to show whether he is even Ranji level or not...

And really' date=' the importance of captaincy is relatively smaller in tests than ODIs and T20s.[/quote'] Dinesh karthick last 5 innings- 135,29,35,75,49 He averages above 40 against Sa and english pace attacks. He or uday kaul deserves a chance. Captaincy is more important in tests than odis .Tactics and stratergt play more part in tests than odis or t20s.

Number Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 2. Are we gonna have some patience with his replacement (eg. Player X)? We will have enough patience till he gets whitewashed 8-0 with mostly innings defeats like we had with Dhoni.
1983-2011 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 if dhoni retires then make karthik the WK and Pujara the captain for at least 2 years, hes more level headed than kohli
rajmarie Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I doubt he will. He is still decent with the bat. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: On serious note...if Dhoni was coming at No 9, 10 or 11 position...then he looks also. But at No 7....& being part of middle order...he is struggling...& dont seem to belong to Test cricket anymore. Maybe he should himself announce his retirement from Test..& concentrate on ODI & IPL.
special K Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Should keep him in the team but stick Sehwag as captain.
Muloghonto Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 U guys do realize that we have to look as far back as Wadekar in the 1970s to find a India captain who's performance did not dip after becomming captain ? Indian captaincy is a ***** of a job- neverending media requests and neverending tug of war with the selectors who are too busy filling quotas for their zones than selecting the best team. IMO Dhoni should not be the captain because there is too much for him to do- he is far and away the safest keeper india has produced since Nayan Mongia (when was the last time Dhoni dropped a clanger ?) and though he is under-performing with the bat, IMO he can hack it as a #7 if he doesnt have to also be captain.
