Batting averages excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe

Last few years? You got to be kidding me. We were No.1 ranked Test nation in the world for 14 months or so not so long ago with the same bowling managing to get 20 wickets regularly to get to that No.1 Test status.
Stop embarassing yourself India as a bowling unit averages a grand 36.01 since 2000s which is worse than what Zimbabwe averaged in the 90s (35.4). Since 2000, only West Indies, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have a worse bowling average than us. If you are excluding Tendulkar's runs against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, it is not at all a joke to exclude runs against WI, NZ and India as well.

****ing irony this. On one hand he is like "Use just one number' date=' no adjustments etc" and then goes ahead and removes runs against BD and Zim. Poor trolling attempt, 3/10, DTW would be ashamed.[/quote']If anything I am seperating the chaff from the wheat and taking out teams against which Jason Gillespie's of the world got double centuries in Tests. And by the way popular websites like cricinfo does the samething while analyzing players i.e. exclude Zim and BD. So you can cry all you want and moan trolling when the numbers are not to your liking.

Fine. No one is stopping you. You can exclude who you want and come up with your own criteria(You can even have a thread for that). And by the way I am not excluding just Tendulkar's numbers versus Zim, BD persay but apply the same across the board.

Me and BB are polar opposite, but I would much rather defend him than you since he is somebody I have talked much with, unlike you. Plus my pension plan (401k) is effed anyway :winky::winky: With regards to Kallis. He is an accumulator whose end results make him look larger than he is. He is lucky to have played in an era when Mcgrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Wasim, Waqars had either retired, were on the verge, or when he did play them (McGrath) he was totally screwed. Unlike Sachin or Lara, who met these greats at their best. Dont put Kallis in the same bracket :winky:
What are you on about? Kallis for someone who is nurtured on seaming tracks in SA has game winning centuries in India and Pakistan which someone like a Ponting or Lara cannot boast about for example though I rate Lara and Ponting better than Kallis.

Here is a look at the batting averages of some great batsman of this past generaion that debuted around 1990 or so excluding the minnows BD and Zim. Jacques Kallis - 54.47 Kumar Sangakkara - 53.33 Brain Lara - 52.53 Sachin Tendulkar - 51.50 Ricky Ponting - 51.10 Shiv Chanderpaul - 51.09 Rahul Dravid - 49.78 Kallis leads the pack comfortably followed by Sanga and Lara taking the 2nd and 3rd spots. Looks like Kallis will end up as the best batsman of this generation all things considered and if one takes his bowling into account certainly the best cricketer of our times. Hope folks realize that and give where credit is due and not take this as a slight on any of their favorite cricketer(S).
1) First most of the ones you have named are not on the verge of retiring Ponting, Dravid averaged 58 at one point, Sachin averaged nearly 59. So lets wait till Kallis, Sanga retire or near retirement as it will make more sense. So yes, Ponting lead the pack comfortably, Dravid led the pack comfortably, and now Kallis leads the pack, etc etc. Wait till they also come ot their eventual downwards peak 2) Zimbabwe of Sachin's time was stronger and had a better bowling attack than NZ of today. Yet you remove Zim and keep NZ. On what basis? 4) When you say all things considered, did you take the difference in quality of attack of the 2000w and the 90s? Because only by ingoring that can Kallis be considered above Lara 3) Every expert of the game, current and ex players, etc are always going to put Sachin over the ones you named or at worst it will be a close contest. Sachin was considered one of the best ever before he acheieved a great average or before he broke one single record. His current form is not going to change that. His current struggle has caused a lot of people to point fingers and be bitter (and rightly so), but once he hangs up his boot, he will be always be remembered a notch higher than the ones you named except maybe Lara who comes close

I clearly mentioned in my opening post just based on stats(as BB and others use to project SRT as best when the numbers suit them) that Kallis is the best followed by Sanga and Lara for batsman that debuted around 1990(minnow adjusted). Now when you bring in experts and opinions they are all subjective. I feel VVS to be a better Test bat than SRT for my own reasons but then I cannot bring him in here in this OP and put him as No.1. I hope SRT instead of playing for the wrong reasons(obsession with stats and numbers) retires immediately so that he can atleast retain his No.4 spot here before others like Ricky Ponting, Shiv Chanderpaul etc. upstage him and push him further down.

Check out Tendulkar's floundering career for the last year and a half with no hope for redemption for answers. :((

Why would I be happy? It's not as if the leach is being dropped so that the team can actually benefit from someone who can put bat to ball and score some runs. He is enjoying is cricket and is radiant with happiness while screwing up the team's happiness.
