I doubt if he would get selected in playing 11. Dhoni follows queue for selection and would select Bhuvneshvar or Awana ahead of him.

Yes and on the flip side you get accurate tight medium pacers like Adam Dale, remember him. Pace mans nothing necessarily. Steyns ODI record is not spectacular. In fact he has not played one day cricket much. rkt what is Shami like as a Ltd overs bowler? Do you think he should have made this squad at all, or been picked for a test squad first? Are there better ltd overs options like Abu Nechim...
Not sure until we see him but he is not very experienced and is still growing.

I have seen all of them bowl this season and last one, Shami is devastating he gets most of his wickets bowled or lbw, he just produces deliveries which can get wickets against any batsmen, Pankaj Singh has taken his game one level higher and now can trouble world class batsmen with his pace , seam and control, bowls to a plan , both are more then Ready. Ishwar Pandey in all probability will play for India, needs to play 2 Season and A tours also could gain a yard of pace easily, S Sharma bowls better then PK, VK for me, moves the ball in the air and seam both ways, needs to play more, S Kaul have seen him in U 19 is not too tall and not sure how he is bowling after his U 19 days, Gony, Pankaj, Shami, should be the first ones in contention for test spot, they all have pace, experience, can hold their own against good batsmen and have done very well over 2 or more years.Awana, Dinda, PK, VK , Unadkat, Mithun don't have what it takes to be effective test bowler and selectors are idio$&@, any one with some knowledge of the game can see quality. India's pace bowling group for test should be Umesh, Aaron, Ishant, Shami, Gony, Pankaj, Irfan, Zak , Sreesanth should only be considered when in form and fit. Bowlers that selectors should groom for higher honours are Anwar , Ishwar, Sandeep, Abu Nechim , Bhaja, Suyal

In my opinion, we expect too much from these seamers in Indian conditions especially in ODIs where conditions are so stacked against them. Does England or Australia expect every spinner they bring in to bamboozle opposition on their tracks ? Give them time to prove themselves. Also what's with this obsession for pace here ? One doesnt necessarily have to bowl 145+ kph in order to be effective. Good, consistent line and length and moving the ball at 135 kph is good enough to pick wickets. If they can bowl quicker, that's an added advantage.

Shami gets a lot of zip and pace off the pitch and visibly hurries batsmen whenever I have seen him. Bowlers who have this quality often turn out to be top wicke-takers. Sadly, the speed gun reading on tv does not show pace off the pitch and hence this very important quality is often ignored by us. Pankaj Singh has this quality too.

We have seen just one over from him for Kolkatta knight riders team. From what I have seen, he has bustling run up to the crease, strong boy, he is just 22 and he can be our next Zaheer khan. I can assure u that he is gonna do well.:two_thumbs_up:

lot of young pacers have potential likes of Shami, Pandey, Mohit, Sandeep, Siddarth, Rajpoot but no one is finished article. They need guidance under good coach who can refine them with methodical practice like Mcdermott did with likes of Pattinson.

Ankit Rajpoot is the brightest young talent after Shami for me, only 19 and how he was not selected U19 WC is still perplexing and indicates towards the quota selections.

spin academy started by BCCI will certainly help. Regarding fast bowling, we have huge issues because these bowlers dont get proper guidance. State associations like Haryana and Rajasthan have done well to appoint good coaches for their fast bowlers.
