Trundler27 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 This guy has taken talent to a whole new level..... he has played 82 odi innings for crying out loud..... what does he have to show for this talent and persistence of dhobi? let's see 13 fifties and 2 hundreds :woot: 3 fifties against Pak 6 fifties against WI :hatsoff: 1 fifty against Aus 2 fifties and 1 hundred against SL 1 fifty against Eng 1 hundred against Zimbabwe (his highest odi score btw) So almost half of his 50+ scores are against WI; both his hundreds were scored in a series in Zimbabwe back in 2010..... there is no exceptional talent here folks.... just a regular batsman who crosses 50 about 18% of the time he walks out to bat

So none of us are perfect here:--D People saying robin only scored on flat tracks are being unfair to him as his best knocks have come on difficult tracks like the cb series finals or t20 wc or mumbai odi where we were top order was taken out by johnson on a helpful track.He got very less chances and was batting at no 7 and faced mendis in one match and got dropped.

Agree ....but he is still not a standout....he is/was competing with the likes of Yuvraj,Yusuf Pathan,Jadeja and to some extent Raina around the time he was dropped for an opening in the team....the advantage they have over him is obviously bowling..As an opener don't see him coming back into that slot...so pretty much his career is over unless we see a total turnaround. I know he was working on his keeping...if that is even half-decent I would take him over Dhoni only for T20 though.

Seriously, if an international batsman couldn't play straight balls, they wouldn't even last against a bowling machine. The people that say that as if its some expert analysis of a players weakness are kidding themselves. A straight ball is the stock standard delivery a bowler bowls. If a batsman couldn't handle that they wouldn't even average 5, let alone 30. Regarding Rohit Sharma in general. You can deny the talent if you want to. But there is a reason that just about every commentator or former player or current player that talks about him immediately mentions his incredible talent. It stands out to anyone that knows anything about batting. You can see the way he plays the drives of balls on the up with ease and a nice high elbow. You can see the way he can judge the length of a ball thats slightly short and immediately rock back without being late on it, which is very hard to do (if you don't believe me ... go to the nets and try it against decent pace and see how you go). Even his harshest critics have never denied his talent or accused him of having major technical flaws, unlike Raina and Gambhir. What he has struggled with is temperament at ODI level. He shows glimpses and then remains inconsistent. However, that should not stand in the way of him getting a chance at Test level, provided he keeps his form in Ranji Trophy. He still has a long way to go in ODIs but with the No.6 spot vacant in Tests and soon another spot will open up when Sachin retires, he deserves to get a look in and an extended run.

Yes. He had a technical issue of not bending his front knee enough on straight fuller deliveries that is why he was getting bowled or LBW on straight deliveries a lot. He was playing a bit too upright. I hope he has worked on that as people were saying he was a bit low in his stance in this match as I could not watch it.

This next game will be interesting as am sure will have now looked at history of rohit and researched him. Expect lots of full straight balls. Lets see how he does and wether he does have weakness or has over come it

There are plenty of balls pitched around 6M mark and above. That's full enough. Anything fuller will become a half volley and it will be easy to drive when there is no swing.
