His technique and temperament is not right for tests. He is a very good ODI player no doubt. But if he wants to improve as a test batsman, he should play county for a season and perform there. Something tells me he wont. He will just hit a double ton on a flat track against a poor bowling attack in FC and make it back to the test team like Yuvraj did and fail once again in tests.

Mental Strength = temperament? For example you may have all the technique in the world, still you can get impatient and nick a good outswinger and waste all your effort. In ODIs you can get away with this sort of thing because bowlers are not always looking for wickets. In test matches against good sides and good bowlers, they are always trying to get you out and unless you have the right temperament, talent ( by which I mean effortless stroke making ability) by itself will get you nowhere.

Raina should have the confidence that if he sorts out his problems against the bouncing and moving ball, he can succeed in tests. Then he should work really hard on his weaknesses. Claiming that he had succeeded in tests, although the evidence is there for all to see, does not look like a very constructive approach.
