Texy Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Feb 18 (Reuters) - China took over management on Monday of Pakistan's Gwadar port, en route to key Hormuz Straits oil shipping lanes, in a move which has prompted nerves in India about its fellow Asian giant's growing strategic clout. China financed more than 80 percent of the $248 million development cost of the port on the Arabian Sea, as part of a plan to open up an energy and trade corridor from the Gulf, across Pakistan to western China. When complete, the port could be used by the Chinese Navy, analysts say, and Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony told reporters on Feb. 6 that Chinese control of the port was "a matter of concern." Indian policy-makers are wary of a string of strategically located ports being built by Chinese companies in its neighbourhood, as India beefs up its military clout to compete. China has also funded ports in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, and Chittagong in Bangladesh, both India's neighbors. After a signing ceremony on Monday, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said he hoped Gwadar would soon be a "hub of trade and commerce in the region". In January, Pakistan's cabinet approved the transfer of Gwadar port from Singapore's PSA International to Chinese Overseas Port Holdings Limited SOURCE What does this mean for India? Shouldn't we be seriously concerned? China is thinking ahead while India is sleeping much like pre 26/11.
panther Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 China also has a $1.3 billion port in sri lanka.
jairamesh Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 US Drone bases, NATO supply routes, and now Chinese naval base, Pakistan is truly whoring it's sovereignty for foreign cash. The bigger concern is rather for Pakistan government regarding how far will this port promote economic development of Balochistan. If it only exploits the resources of the region then it won't be long before Baloch rebels target the port.

NareshK Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Let the America troops pull out from Af-Pak in 2014. Forget China, even their baap cant save Pak from Taliban. You think they would take lightly to Pak allowing America using it as a base to bombard their areas and kill thousands of their people. Pak has this coming for their adventurous, double games to gain more power and their generals greed to make billions. As you sow so you reap.

Clarke Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Its great for the Chinese if the safety of the entire route from the Karakoram highway to the port can be guaranteed.

jusarrived Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Pak has been used as a pawn by all the big powers . These guys are too dumb to ever realize that . lol @ China treating them as a friend .
straighttalk Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 this is such a brilliant move by the pakis....it is a win win situation for our two rivals. on one hand..china gains a foothold, and another trade route. On the other hand..if ever war breaks out between India and Pak, we would have to think very hard before blockading the Gwadar port...as it might draw China into the war... in the event we don't do this...effectively pakistan can have free supply of oil and other resources...this is not a good move for india. as for the us withdrawal...it is actually bad for india.. because with the enermy gone..all those mad men will now be pushed back to kashmir..hope we are ready to prevent infiltration.
ravishingravi Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Well its worth to be Closest Ally and Friend of next world Super Power :two_thumbs_up: so apparently padosis call "Chamchas" allies.
NareshK Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 :hysterical: Why are you laughing, you moron ? ISI and Pak army has treated your country like its their play ground for dumb, strategy games. With moves like these, they have isolated themselves completely from neighbors and even Bangladesh doesnt even visit Pak for playing cricket anymore. You think China is your ally ? Think again, buddy. But then again, you are probably living in some foreign country and couldnt care less about what's happening to common man in Pak.
G_B_ Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Gwadar is of no threat to India what so ever. If anything its a sitting duck to the american ships in Bahrain. I say let them go for it. The americans are licking their lips in anticipation. Even the chinese know this and they are keeping their options open. Gwadar in that respect is just more economically viable than transporting oil all the way around the ocean (though that will happen as well cause Gwadar is too small to meet all the chinese demand) Its strategic value is overstated.
KeyboardWarrior Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 NareshK we are talking about economical stuff here, so talking about Banglsdeshi cricket team is Off topic here. And about isolating we are hearing this from last many decades, if u r talking about economical isolating thn u r wrong and if u r talking about isolating in cricket thn again its Off topic. and i am laughing about Indian Media and thr few Ex-Army men Crying :hysterical:

mhr123 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Pak have not realized the mistake which they have done... they wud be kicking themselves after 2-3 years... US is already having there base now in comes china over a highly important location @ Gwadar and from there they can take care of India/Iran/Afg/Middle East and also can use Inland Passage to China.
